Marshall broke onto the scene with Dog Soldiers, but the horror film The Descent gained him more mainstream attention a couple years back. If your partner asks to stay with you, politely refuse. We are trying to say at "How to Arrange the First Meeting" is that at the first meeting
one should maintain a safe distance while first checking out the other person, while
first determining if there is any CHEMISTRY between you two.. In case the meeting
goes badly, in case there is no chemistry, one can politely extricate
oneself, with no hard feelings, with no more wasted time.
I am not talking about bringing a woman in on a fiancee visa and not making arrangements
for her to have a place to stay. If you have decided to marry someone, you should be
well beyond the first meeting stage.
I am talking about the first meeting where chemistry is tested.
For example. When you meet someone for the first time, the best thing to arrange
is a "non stress" meeting, one is a safe public location, one which has a definite
start time, and definite end time.
It takes about five minutes or less to determine if the chemistry is working.
For example an ideal first date is far better to be a lunch date, where you meet
at a restaurant as a certain time, and you both have agreed and know that later in the afternoon
you each have something else to do. So in one or two hours the date/meeting will
wrap up and you will go your separate ways.
If the chemistry is not good, then when the lunch is over you politely leave. If the chemistry
is good, you can make plans for followup dates.
If for example the first date was planned to be cocktails, dinner, dancing, and after 5 minutes
you find you have made a mistake, that the chemistry is not good, then it is impossible to
politely extricate yourself. Instead if you are polite, you are facing a long, tortured evening ahead.
Of course it is more complicated when a person travels long distances to meet his
correspondent for the first time. It is more expensive and more time consuming. However
the issue of good or bad chemistry still applies.
I personally do not believe you can tell the chemistry via email, chat, webcam, or telephone.
I believe that the ONLY way to test chemistry is if you are sitting together in the same room.
If I was seeking a life partner ( I already found mine ) and I had penpals in a foreign
country, I would not limit myself to only one penpal before I had met people in person.
I was corresponding with women in the Philippines, or China or Ethiopia I would prefer to make friends with a half dozen
via email and chat. I would make my own arrangements to visit the country, and while there not to visit just one of my long distance friends
but I would meet ALL OF THEM.
I would meet each one for the first time in safe neutral places, for short simple meetings, with set start times, and set
end times, ie for breakfast, for lunch, for coffee. The girl's friends, chaperones, relatives are welcome to come along.
If it turns out there is no chemistry, we would not be stuck with each other. I have seen many cases
where there is no mutual chemistry with the penpal, but since the corrrespondences has been kept on a
sincere and friendly basis, the penpal happily introduces you to her girlfriends or relatives she feels you may get along with.
If there is chemistry, then after meeting all of your penpals, it is time to
narrow the field by arranging follow up dates with the gals you are most interested in as potential life partners.
Of course time is limited if you are taking time off work to visit a foreign country. My philosophy though is that
marriage should last forever, or at least 40 or 50 years till
you die. So if it means taking extra time to choose wisely, if it means taking two or more overseas trips before
becoming engaged, then that is a truly worthwhile investment. A little bit of time, a few tropical vacations, are all
good investments, when it results in your finding the right person to spend the rest of your life with,.
Nothing is more devastating and expensive than divorce, this can generally be avoided by taking ones time,
using common sense, and CHOOSING WISELY. And choosing wisely does not mean getting engaged
to someone you have never met in person, it includes keeping your options open till you have met in
person and have verified that the chemistry is good between you two.

Slabs of walls, twisted steel supports, furniture and wire fences were strewn in the streets, and gray dust was everywhere. A body lay on the sidewalk, covered by a white sheet.

Two of the girls, Noelle Feliciano and Yvonne Downs, worked on a piece of artwork to display a sign, which has been painted by another volunteer. We stand along the fence and all reflect on the past week. Many of us feel angry and sad for these people and what we have seen.
Before we left, we presented Lower Nine with a gift card from the group to help give food and doctor visits to the dogs in the neighbor. We would like to thank the Harold Campbell Foundation of Bethlehem for their generous donation of $500 to Lower Nine.
