I must confess that this artist is not my favorite one, I wouldn't call his art as erotic of course but he has incredible number of followers and fans, that's fact. Then here is some fragments from the book "Lucian Freud" by From Lawrence Gowing.


"At the outset there is always a mystery. We cannot know what a painter brought to painting or what drew him to it. Yet everything he paints throughout his life adds to our understanding of one or both these things. When his last picture is painted in that predestined way in which, one cannot help believing, an artist's work, and therefore art, unfolds when the last predestined picture is finished and the trajectory of his meaning completes its curve then we know all there is to be known about these first riddles and understand what can't be known, what remains unknowable about the sources and the resources of a painter.
"This book offers a chance to look at work by Lucian Freud. Generally the sight is not easy to come by, because most of the pictures belong to people, not museums. It is nearly ten years since as many of them as this were shown together. Unlike most noted contemporaries, Freud does not paint museum pictures, though if you come on one in a museum you may never forget it. Large groups of them hang in a few collections; his pictures are sought after and kept at home, as if there was something personal in their significance. This book, in which Freud has taken a large part, is exceptional in another respect. Not only the work but the view of it here (though not the commentary) is his own. Seen through his eyes, the pictures show aspects that are unexpected. In his comparisons, cutting sometimes a little across the order in which they may have been painted, they connect in ways that one had not foreseen. Seen in his context they show more of ... something or other, which one had not noticed, more of a character that is peculiarly his. They not only complement each other; they reveal more of the unpredicted discords that are an elusive element in them. Led by the painter, one is aware at page after page of a residual shock from which familiarity does not shield one. One would not wish that it should. One rather, and shamelessly, prizes the frisson, without particular sentiment for whomever, in what unsparing involvement, inspired it. Familiarity does not shield but sharpens, engaging one more deeply in a relationship that is addictive.

"With modern art in particular one is always considering, or should be if one is not, the shades of indispensability that attach to the surprise. The way that Lucian Freud's world presents itself to him and to us has been inseparable from a chill of incongruity that preserves its particularity, its otherness, as if a coldness in the figurative substance made the visual contact electric and compelling.

"There is always something more or less unexpected in the unfolding of an original artist's work; because few of such people exist at one time we remain unaccustomed to the fact. One is never prepared for the edgy, restless mobility that continually implies something more and different until the artist's last picture has been painted. As I write Freud has just passed his fifty ninth birthday; this concluding and conclusive evidence is a long way off. The latest picture on his easel is as full as any of the peculiar personal momentum that one has known from the beginning, but in every other respect so different that I find myself understanding afresh and differently a condition of private liveliness that was already apparent when I became aware of him more than forty years ago. Apparent and slightly irksome; I was inclined to resent it, and was lately concerned to find that Freud regarded this evidently unconcealed inclination of mine as a positive qualification for writing about him. I first knew this quality of liveliness, for which I should prefer a word that did not suggest animation or wholesomeness, when I think as much of a coiled vigilance and a sharpness in which one could imagine venom (my critical equipment was primitive and my sympathies limited) knew it as a quality of drawing, one that was intrinsic to line and indeed to edges. Freud's view of a subject was marked from the first by a serpentine litheness in the ready, rapid way in which an object was confronted, the object of intellectual curiosity or sociable advantage or desire it was apt then to be all of them at once. A personal flavour that was unlike any one had known was communicating itself to art; it still does. Going to look at the heads in the new picture, I become aware that this uncommon condition is now a condition of the paint, of the material itself and the incomparable alertness with which it is moulded to the experience of people. In the paint itself, through its receptive granulation and equally through its miraculous lack of anything like the approximating mellowness that one had thought endemic to malerisch figuration, one feels the quality of sharpened perception and pointed response that makes one think of the lowered muzzle of some hunting creature, and think with involuntary admiration, unless it is apprehension.

"One may recognize the latest work and the earliest, as well as the successive styles between, as one man's uses for art. That is not to account for them. Painting offers itself unaccounted for, uninterpreted, unexcused. Freud's rather few remarks about art in general set store by the defiantly inexplicable spell that the image arts achieve at their peak. The viable, surefooted, impenetrability of his persona is intended. Again, one is now unaccustomed to a daemon like this in the polite community of the visual arts, but in the past art was full of such people. This is how the young men of the Renaissance must have been, with their eyes on anatomy and the main chance, on the street corners at evening when the botteghe came out and the virgins were hurried indoors. I have been able to confirm rather few even of the relevant details of Lucian Freud's childhood and how he came to painting. There is no evidence for most of the circumstances, least of all the highly coloured ones, that have been described. These myths were not Lucian's myths.

York is only a two-hour
train journey from London,
and Bridlington is an hour’s
drive beyond that, but it’s a
drive into a seemingly unchanged
world. Bridlington is
still in part a fishing village,
in part the seaside resort
Hockney’s family visited in
the ’40s and ’50s, where he
bought and furnished a comfortable
home overlooking the
North Sea for his mother
(who died in 1999 at age 99)
and his sister, Margaret
Hockney, who lives there still.
“It was built by a Bridlington
trawler owner for his ugly daughter,” says Hockney,
who made a point of not removing the number
plates that once guided patrons during the house’s
latter days as a bed and breakfast.
Hockney, strolling toward his car in a way that shows the cane
to be more accessory than necessity, wants to know how the journey
from London was. As a seasoned trencherman, he seems
pleased that his visitor enjoyed a full English breakfast en route.
Our mission today is to drive via back roads through East Yorkshire
— not to be confused with the Yorkshire Dales, the more famously
picturesque terrain to the west where Turner painted
landscapes — and look at some of the locales that inspired the 55
watercolors in Hockney’s upcoming (Feb. 26 through April 2)
show at LA Louver gallery in Venice, Calif. It’s titled “Hand Eye
Heart,” after the Chinese formulation describing what painting
draws upon. The show’s mostly roadside vistas share a roughhewn
beauty that’s rich in mossy greens, lavender-gray skies and
stark, winter-stripped trees and hedgerows. One grouping is of 36
smaller paintings, hung four scenes high by nine scenes long,
composing a pastorale in lush green and rich yellow hues.
For all its pleasures, it’s a show that could induce in Los Angeles
art lovers a feeling of suspense and even poignancy, for
these works were inspired by and executed in Hockney’s native
country and mark the culmination of three years largely spent
away from his L.A. home and studio off Mulholland Drive. Although
he won’t state outright that he’s away from America indefinitely
— he’ll casually say things such as, “I’m a claustrophobe,
that’s why I live in L.A.” — he also gives no timetable for
his return.
Blame a great deal of his urge to roam on his newly discovered
medium of watercolors. What began as a few portraits in the late
’90s flowered into a group of works done in Spain, then bravura
Norwegian and Icelandic landscapes. Hockney learned the craft
quickly and came to love loading up his brush for the kind of
strokes that require real commitment.
“A painting is an artist’s account of looking at the world,” he
says on this day, a credo he’s stated before. The world he’s seen
recently is revealed (though sometimes barely, as with one fogshrouded
row of trees in the new show’s untitled signature work),
largely under northern light. His studio in the Bridlington home’s
converted attic lets in the same faint glow, and the L.A. show’s
“Bridlington. Garden and Rooftops III” invites you to make what
you will of the sedate view north from it.
Hockney’s friend, writer and cultural critic Lawrence Weschler,
has written an essay for LA Louver’s catalog, and he finds
“a return to origins” in Hockney’s autumn- and winterscapes:
“the sense of returning in winter, perhaps, to one’s own springtime.”
C O N T I N U I T Y, N O T C H A N G E HOCKNEY leads the way to his tan Lexus,
which he chose as the quietest ride this side
of a Bentley. He immediately rolls down his
window and lights a smoke, which he does at
a rate of slightly more than a pack a day when
he’s talking a lot. (He points out that Eisenhower
has been unjustly criticized for smoking
80 cigarettes on D-day — “I should think he would have
smoked 200.”) Between conscientious tour guide business —
glances at the remains of York’s ancient wall and the landmark
tower the York Minster — he continues to kvetch eloquently
about the antismoking forces in England and America. It’s
a theme he returns to often, but his summation relies on a
countryman’s words and is aimed straight at his sometime
home: “Tom Stoppard says people in L.A. think the choice is between smoking and immortality.”
As we motor through small villages and down verdant ravines
that, as Hockney points out, were carved by glaciers rather than
rivers, we pass occasional flocks of sheep and Highland cattle,
and fields that the government has decreed will be forever reserved
for cultivating oats, wheat and barley.
“It’s the food bin of England,” Peter Goulds, LA Louver founder
and director, says of Hockney’s native Yorkshire, noting that
the artist spent most of his childhood in the sooty city of Bradford
in West Yorkshire. Goulds, who first sold works by Hockney
in the late 1970s, sees more continuity than change in this hanging:
“It’s all part of what you could call David’s journey to light.”
Goulds helped Hockney mount a September 1998 show at the
gallery titled “looking at landscape/being in landscape” in which
massive studies of American sites (including “A Bigger Grand
Canyon,” which sold to the National Gallery of Australia for
$3 million) were hung near a series of Yorkshire scenes. The latter,
though done in oils, Hockney’s most familiar medium, covered
territory similar to the recent watercolors. Goulds sees the
watercolor spate as almost inevitable for the “intellectually curious
and technically proficient” painter. “It was a medium he’d
largely avoided; finally he had to take it on.”
The 1998 show derived much of its inspiration from drives
Hockney made between Bridlington and the town of Wetherby,
where his great friend Jonathan Silver lay dying of pancreatic AN L.A. PERSPECTIVE: Hockney in his studio in 1990
with an unfinished canvas of the Santa Monica Mountains. cancer. (The same disease had claimed his confrere, curator
Henry Geldzahler, in 1994.) “You might as well live,” was Hockney’s
way of summing up his determination not to despair despite
those deaths and a series of others — from AIDS, age and
other causes—among his oldest friends. Legendarily devoted to
his dachshunds, he was further dismayed by the death of his frequent
portrait subject Stanley (Hockney is a great fan of Laurel
and Hardy). That latter loss did create a kind of liberation — he
was no longer constrained by dog quarantine regulations that
had kept Stanley from joining him on visits to England. As the departure
of friends joined with his severe hearing loss to leave him
increasingly isolated in his canyon, the logic of spending time in
England grew.
L . A . I N S P I R A T I O N S MOST of Hockney’s London days, in the
three years since he’s been once again
based there, are spent in his apartment
and studio at the edge of Holland Park,
where he walks most mornings while
fetching the newspapers. (“I’m not really
a reader of the Guardian,” he’ll sniff,
showing little interest in their putting a loaned sketch of his on
the front page this very Saturday as part of a neighborhood campaign
to save what turns out to be his old post office.)
He has a brother living near Margaret in Bridlington and two
more in business in Australia, but he dotes on the chirpingly delightful
Margaret, a former nurse who has such an array of computers
supporting her digital photography (much of it linked to
her second career as a herbalist) that the BBC recently visited to
film her at work. As a young nurse, she went to Zambia for a year
but stayed three because the need was so great: “My sister has an
innocence about her,” he says lovingly. “She’s seen life much more
harsh than you or I. She’s never earned any money in her life.” He
pauses for a wry look: “You have to be a big crook to get money.”
The artist is able to be of and apart from the London arts community;
a 2002 arrangement to trade portraits, each of the other,
with Lucian Freud resulted in many walks across Holland Park
(where, significantly, “I saw my first Northern European springtime
in 22 years”). Hockney willingly sat for 129 hours; the older
artist gave him but three to capture the forbidding Freud visage.
Both men are “academicians,” as the elite members of the Royal
Academy of Arts are called, and are said to be privately unhappy
that an architect was selected to head that group rather than
Hockney’s longtime painter colleague (they were at the Royal College of Art with director Ridley Scott in the early ’60s), Allan
Jones.
Hockney was the toast of swinging London before he characteristically
removed himself from it. His arrival in Los Angeles in
the mid-1960s (after a brief spell testing the water in New York)
was vivifying: “I was so taken with the space, the beauty of it. It
was . . . January 1964. You could drive anywhere; it hardly seemed
to have a rush hour — you’d drive from Santa Monica to Pasadena
at 6 o’clock, and it’d take you half an hour . . . move around
the city with the greatest of ease in your private space.”
He had arrived bearing the proceeds from his first large show
in England: “I traveled with a letter of credit, took with me about
three or four thousand dollars. I felt I was rich, very rich.”
Hockney spent $900 on the Ford Falcon that would take him
through 50,000 miles of exploration. “One day a week I used to
drive around L.A., go anywhere, find out where I was from the
Thomas Guide and then drive back. It was amazing, actually. I’d
never felt freer, sexually free, everything.”
If his paintings were not the first proclamation that L.A.’s
swimming pools and palm trees were iconic, they were among the
more powerful. And though he doesn’t dwell on the impact of
globally familiar images such as the almost audibly evocative
snapshot-in-acrylics called “A Bigger Splash” (“I painted that in
Berkeley actually — probably from a photograph — while I was
teaching there for a semester.”), he was and is pleased to claim
his territory: “One of the great things about L.A. for me when I
first went there was nobody had painted it. Paris had been painted
by great artists, Italy, London — but in L.A., you didn’t even
know what famous building was there.”
Still, he refused to put down immobilizing roots, despite the
happiness he found there from 1964 through 1977. He was 28 and a
growingly famous La Cienega boulevardier (his usual uniform
was “a T-shirt”) when he met 18-year-old art student Peter Schlesinger.
The new love was enough to uproot Hockney, as he describes
in his easy, if telegraphic style: “A very L.A. person, very goodlooking
and very bright, full of curiosity. He actually made
me come back to Europe — he wanted to live in London. I moved
back to London just because of Peter, and when we broke up
I went to live in Paris. And after that I felt I’d rather be in
L.A., that’s the place, that’s where I can work. I had to get a green
card again, but I found L.A. a stimulant. I wasn’t quite tempted
to just lie on a beach; I might have painted a kind of hedonism,
but the artists themselves can’t be hedonists. Artists are workers.”
B A C K T O T H E L A N D YORK proper and its suburbs are soon behind
us as Hockney expertly pilots the sedan on the
old Roman road, which soon resembles a country
lane, rising 800 feet above sea level over the
chalk hills (“wolds”) between York and Bridlington.
We’re not far outside Stamford
Bridge, where a noted prelude to the Battle of
Hastings was fought, when he points out a pub that would look
perfectly at home in a film adaptation of a Thomas Hardy book.
As a 15-year-old schoolboy working an arduous summer job, “I’d
go down there and have drinks.” (This falls in line with his somewhat
defensive boast, “I never had a cigarette before I was 9.”) A
half-mile on we pass a farmhouse surrounded by cornfields,
where he’d stayed while he earned wages “stooking”: “You picked
up the sheaf of corn, tied it together with another and made it
into a stook, then stuck them in the stubble. It was a hard day’s
work actually — the only consolation was it was rather beautiful
looking out, on the shapes of the fields.”
It’s not the grandest manifesto an artist ever announced, but
as he spent more time in England over the last couple of years,
those fields called out to him. A number of the watercolors in the
upcoming show, notably “Woldgate With Flowers and Blossom,”
recapture those days, showing landscapes that, he notes, “haven’t
changed a bit in 50 years.” In addition to those and the almost
riotous flora in the “36-Part Work,” there are many wintry
scenes, such as “Trees Puddles, East Yorkshire,” that use humble
means to pull your eye into something actually as complex as
one of Hockney’s beloved Mahler symphonies.
Although the show’s working title used the phrase “After the
Secret Knowledge,” these paintings clearly proceed beyond
Hockney’s recent studies of how the old masters used (and
achieved) perspective. Though he’s still involved in intellectual
scraps with scientists from Stanford and Scientific American,
the upshot of his research was a repudiation of photography’s
Cyclops eye, and a simple enough refutation of what the literal
rendering of nature can do: “It led me back to the land. I realized
you could [only] paint the landscape, because you can’t photograph
the landscape — you can’t get space in it.” So I thought,
‘Well my God, I should go paint Yorkshire again.’ ”
Our destination is Bridlington, where we’ll wander along the
strand and eat a hearty lunch, dinner and breakfast with his aide,
Gregory Evans, and the welcoming Margaret. (Hockney’s companion
of some years, John Fitzherbert, prepares a lunch, heavy
on pork, before taking to his bed to fight a cold.)
But on the chatty, ambling ride to Bridlington, Hockney
seems content to pull over in key spots for reconsideration. He
sits alertly in the driver’s seat, looking like he’d prefer the passenger
seat, where he spent much time doing smaller paintings with
a board across his knees to make an easel. Peering into the fields
where the sun glowers but never quite breaks through, he seems
again to be following the skein of memory that led him down
these back roads. He’s well aware that despite inveighing against
establishments artistic and political, he’s been under the covers
with fame and wealth for more than three decades now. There’s
probably no more celebrated world-class artist, and the accessibility
of his vibrant, involving canvases has somehow not hurt
his standing among critics and curators. In disregarding fashion
and trend, he’s remained relentlessly fashionable.
His friend, Norman Rosenthal, the Royal Academy of Arts curator,
notes that the acclaim for Hockney’s work would not have
come if the artist weren’t “an amazingly competent man” but
sees his long-running success as more a function of being “constantly
inventive” and also because of “a great moral authority
that comes through in his art.”
One of the more striking works in the LA Louver show is “The
Road to Rudston,” executed in March of last year. Its barren trees
and hedgerows are rendered with almost manic brushstrokes,
much resembling those in Van Gogh’s Provence sketchbooks, under
darkly swelling rain clouds. The painting is also to be found in
a new hardcover collection called “Hockney’s Pictures: The Definitive
Retrospective,” where it sits above one of his epigrammatic
quotes. “I have always believed that art should be a deep
pleasure,” it reads, “ . . . the very fact that the art is made seems to
contradict despair.”
Rosenthal says Hockney “believes in life, and he believes in
freedom, and all those things he’s stood for all his life — and
whether that was as a young man or now as an older man, he
somehow hasn’t changed. He doesn’t dye his hair blond anymore
but that’s all the difference there is.”
Hockney will admit that recent world events can induce moments
of doubt, and that “one of my selfish thoughts was, ‘Well,
maybe you should be glad you’re not too young.’ ” He gazes across
the lane at the farmhouse where five decades ago he would sleep
rough, one of six laborers to a room. “When you’re young, the
world excites you no matter what. It’s when you’re old you actually
want the silk underwear.”
He reflects a moment. “You know what the Chinese say about
painting?” This he follows with a shrug that can only be described
as philosophical: “It is an old man’s art.

It's funny how things work. You think something is concrete solid, yet a small crack can deteriorate everything. I actually felta stab in my heart, Iactually felt it. You know how October is seen only as the month that contains Halloween and Canadian Thanksgiving Day? I found out an interesting fact: both my grandparents and parents got married in October. And their marriages were always concrete solid; my grandparents have passed away now, but they were together for a long time. It's all funny because Ialways wanted to have my wedding in October, namely on Halloween (which happens to be the day my grandparents married). Two generations of successful marriages is a great support when it comes to love, wouldn't it be? Viz. and me are distanced at the moment, and what better time to meet up? Summer time gives us the time needed to save money up for travel and whatever else.

I'm also going to go see my doctor in June to see if Ican possibly get my foot surgery done. Foot surgery, you ask? I was born with a foot that was bent more than necessary. While it's not as bad as it was, it could be straightened just a bit more. I'm hoping it'd be done in the summer, so I'd be crutchless. Ahahaha, I almost typed crotchless, of all great typos... And this summer, Iwant me and Dad to finish our house. It's in a hectic state with one room stuffed full of shit and a bathroom with nothing but a running toilet. It's a nice house beside those two things, but I find it kind of embarrassing. And another thing, we need to finally unpack all of our boxes... It's been how long since we moved here? TWELVEYEARS! Okay now that I've calmed down a bit, I'll talk more about what I'm worried about.

It's hard to watch as someone you feel deeply in love with mention the fact that they don't know if they feel the same. I never thought it'd feel like this. And to think I used to say people who get dramatic over love are fools. But here Iam, in the same situations as other people. It almost makes me wish he never said he loved me, and almost makes me wish I hadn't said I loved him too. Of course, we said 'like', but it was love. But this is why you shouldn't fall in love with friends, if things don't work out then there's years of good times down the drain. Best friends to lovers, then to nothing. What a nice and heart wrecking transition. Not that it has turned to nothing, but by the looks of it, it might soon be. Not by my choice, but I can't force him to love me again. Love should be a choice, and I will never take that away from someone just to save myself a heartbreak. Hahaha, it's hard typing this without shedding tears, but I'm holding them back pretty well.

I'm going to talk about something else for the moment, just as a tear saver. Hmm, let's talk about what I've been doing the past few days. Friday I wored, and it was fucking hell. It's the shits when someone is always correcting you, especially when it's unnecessary. I put the lettuce and tomato in the wrong order... OHH, THEWORLD ISTURVY! It's okay if I'm just learning, but I've been working there for years. So what if it's not done down to the T, as long as the person gets everything they ordered... Why should it matter? Presentation is one thing that makes food so great, but are they really going to send it back because the lettuce is on top of the tomato?If they do, they're just a dickhead. Besides work, I smoked pot with my mom, and what a mistake that was. I just ended up getting pissed off and going to bed. Probably didn't help that she and Dad were drinking too. Then yesterday, I went into town with Dad to my little cousin's birthday party. He's two now; Yay for the terrible twos! But seeing all the little kids made me really think about having kids of my own some day. Not right away, obviously, but when I'm ready. The whole idea of childbirth is what scares the shit out of me. But having kids would be great, takes a lot of years before you have freedom again, yet it wouldn't matter when you get to see your own kid grow up. There's so many risks with having children though, so that always scares me. Idon't need to worry about that for a while though.

Last night me and Pat went out for supper. She waited for her son to come to her house, but he never showed. Around nine or so we headed off to Cache Creek and stopped at Heartland. THEYMEALS! I got kalamari with rice, lemon potato and Greek salad. Pat got basically the same thing but lemon chicken instead of kalamari. At the restaurant there were a couple of guys who were kind of ruining the atmosphere. They were all drinking and Hell literally broke loose when the waitress said she couldn't serve no more beers. That's when snyde remarks started to flow. Eventually, one guy explained to the others why she stopped serving beers, legal reasons. Besides that, we had a good time. Thencame home to see my neighbours partying; what a bunch of assholes.

But here Iam today, feeling like shit. Ihad planned to go into town with my friend Kyle just to do whatever. I was going to wear my black dress and everything, but those bloody words prevent me. Ican't have a good time knowing Viz. is questioning his love for me. I almost wish he just continued to ignore me, but I wanted him to talk to me again. Not exactly the words I wanted, but I got what Iasked for. I feel bad, I know it was my fault... but c'mon, he's flipped out on me before. It's true what they say, girls forgive faster than guys. Late last year, i was asked by a friend to produce a piece of work for someone he knew that was leaving the country. I could do anything i wanted, the only stipulation being that the piece had to have something to do with Trinidad.

At the time i was sketching the pathways and trees and obstacles in woodford square for an unrelated project that really required no more than sketches and the commission seemed like a great opportunity to do an actual map of the square. The square is of great historical importance and it seemed a fitting subject for a souvenir of sorts.

The images in this set are of the sketches, drawings and final piece. I'm really happy with the way it turned out. I've never made anything like this before and i feel like my recent devotion to experimenting and being less anal about making work in any one way is leading me in the right direction.

For the piece i used cut pieces of linen board, acrylics and ink. The type in the header is of my own design and all buildings and references are accurate representations of the architecture styles and uses of the sites around the square.

1. Ride the world's biggest roller coaster.

I was deathly afraid of roller coasters until I was about thirteen when my father forced me to ride one in Myrtle Beach. I was hooked, immediately, but riding the biggest by 18? No.

Kingsdominion and Six Flags were the closest parks, within driving distance, and while you risked whiplash on most of KD's rickety wooden coasters, none of them stood at record-breaking heights.

However, I did ride Six Flags' Superman coaster about five years ago, well beyond the 18 mark and it occurred to me that very day, as I rode up the ninety degree incline, that I was too old to be trying to conquer bigger and faster coasters.

Thanks Six Flags for curing me of my roller coaster obsession!

Verdict: Half a check for braving all of the coasters within my reach.

2. Bungee jump!

Yeah right! Look, bungee jumping looked stupid when it came out and it looks stupid now. Come to think of it, I don't even know if bungee jumping was invented when I was eighteen. It may have been something that came a few years after, when I was in college. Either way, didn't do it, never would do it, ain't gonna happen Reese's.

Verdict: Pffft!

3. Score the winning goal/basket

However, a few years ago I met Francine Pascal, creator of the Sweet Valley High and I was definitely giggly like a school girl because I'm a total book nerd. Does that count?

I don't even remember what my favorite TV show was, back then. But I do know I've never played in one so...

Oh that's so establishment. Look, I've invented plenty words or at least have found multiple uses of my own for existing words. I don't need Websters to validate me. And not for nothing, once the dictionary christens it, it loses its edge. RIP Bling!

Verdict: Check, for inventing "cutty sark" as a term for your best friend. Do I care that it was the name of a whiskey first? No..

14. Conquer your biggest fear.

Dying? I'm still working on that.

15. Raise money for charity.

Yup. Another easy one for me. Well, does it count that my parents actually did all the selling of tickets and wrapping paper and candy for the charities "I" supported?

Verdict: Half a check. Must split honors with the 'rents.

16. Pass your driving the first time.

Yeah, thanks for bringing up one of the single most humiliating experiences of my life, Reese's. No, no I did not pass my driving test the first time. Geez! And I ask you, why do you have to parallel park to get a license?! What does parallel parking have to do with driving?!

To this day I only parallel park if there is absolutely zero other alternative and that's pretty darned rare.

Verdict: No check and the bad memories of that disappointing day now linger. Great!


17. Complete a road trip coast to coast.

What am I, insane? I hate driving, which BTW has nothing to do with why I failed my driver's test. It has to do with commuting daily as an adult.

But prior to that, the longest drive I ever took was from Maryland to Alabama then to Orlando and it FELT like driving coast to coast.

Verdict: No check, but I'm not shedding tears over this one.

18. Reach 18 years of age.

And how does one reach the age of 18 prior to turning 18, Reese's? Huh? How?

Verdict: Still feel my life is quite fulfilled despite scoring only 8 before I was eighteen. Perhaps I need some Reese's life counseling. Off to buy a Reese cup, now. I hear it holds the secret to living forever.

In Respect to the remarks of President Barak Hussain Obama, The president of the United States of America. The Political Committee of a number of factions in the Iraqi Resistance, mainly the factions present in our front, respond with our point of view on the contents of his speech.

Over the last four months, as the battle of our people continues to free Iraq of all foreign occupation. We have been studying the movements on the ground as well as analyzing the intelligence in order to assess the next strategy that the US administration will take under the leadership of the new presidency.

We had formulated our own plan of action based on the above mentioned, but have chosen to give the new president enough time to gather his thoughts and have a suitable amount of reports briefings that would give him also a good picture of the daily developments on the ground.

President Obama, After listening to your speech on the 27th of February 2009, in which you declared your general and public understanding of the ongoing war against our people, and gave your military and the honorable people of the United States brief points on your intentions in our country, we felt the spirit of the speech that your predecessor President JFK gave on the 20th of January 1961, on his inaugural address. In this speech, he offered a turbulent world, a way out of tensions and paid with his own blood for challenging the interests of those in your consecutive governments who hold the true keys to power. Those who would do anything to preserve their interests, wealth, power to create wars conflict.

We mention this with great honesty in hope to spread awareness and remembrance that a new Caesar may be betrayed, by his own, if he chooses to follow a different path. We do believe, on the other hand, that the spirit of the speech was well chosen.

We have listened well to your economic plans for your country released before this speech as well, and as ambitious as it may seem, we believe that if intentions are genuine within your congress, a considerable number of what you seek will eventually be fulfilled, but in case of failure, the republicans will be looking for a scapegoat to relate all their failures to. In this case it would be your administration. This will guarantee them a fast comeback.

You have inherited a nation at war, a failed economy, and a desperate people who are bearing the full brunt of an economic crisis that was not of their making. As well as thousands of young men dead and handicapped.


We have inherited a foreign occupation, endless counts of innocent dead, injured, and handicapped, millions of refugees, in essence, Mr. President, the complete and planned disintegration of our nation and people.

We believe that the funds wasted in this war would have been more useful if it were spent on research to develop alternative energy, which no doubt would have reduced energy conflicts, cures for cancer, agricultural solutions to prevent worldwide poverty, advancements to develop Africa, where people still die of starvation and intentional neglect. Endless causes, all in need of immediate attention.


By the will of God almighty, the resilience of our men, and the patience of our humble people, we have so far managed to halt and render useless all imperialist agendas set for Iraq and the region in whole. Simply by choosing to resist occupation, a right guaranteed by God first and then by international conventions to all men. A right your countrys policies continue to disrespect and dishonor, in clear example to state sponsored Terrorism.

You have spoken to our people in part of your speech, and we thank you for these words, you have displayed a far better understanding our nation, than your predecessor, who preferred to dive deep into the oceans of illiteracy and ignorance. Despite the fact that you did not mention the Iraqi resistance in your speech, and chose to label us as terrorists along with those who arrived with your troops, we will set that aside for now, and mention a few facts for the record.

1- The people of Iraq whom you addressed, in all their sects colors and religions, refuse your occupation, and those who accept it, are those who benefit from it.
2- The Iraqis you addressed, as we truly hope, are not the ones who bathe in the riches of treason, behind your walls of the green zone, nor are they the likes of Ahmed Al Chalabi, whom your previous government conspired with and his likes from the dark alleys of 5 star hotels in the US and Europe prior to your occupation.
3- The Iraqi people you talked to, are those who never invited your occupation, and were trying their best to survive on what was possible, under the criminal sanctions that went on for 13 years only to be crowned with a foreign occupation, unmatched in criminal acts, in todays modern world.

President Obama, The suffering, that our people had to go through is beyond comprehension. And the endless crimes of your troops as well as that of neighboring countries, cannot simply be undone or dismissed, nor can they be brushed under the carpet. Your troops still occupy the land and kill the innocent, that is why we can only address you as the president of an occupying nation.

The Iraqi People are disappointed in your plan. They expect your troops to leave our country in full and not in part. Our people, seek a complete end of occupation and not the fulfillment of a strategic treaty that was rushed against the will of our people, in the last few days of your predecessor.

Our people, as well as the majority of people around the world, and in your country, want to see the last president be presented to an international war crime tribunal for all the crimes he has committed in the name of your country, only to benefit those who brought him to power in the first place.

We have never invited your occupation, nor have we asked your country to steal our countrys resources to benefit your corporations and to those neighboring states which historically fall under your influence. We have never asked you for your precious blood or ours, to us, all blood is precious even that of the your soldiers sent by your government to die not knowing what they were truly fighting for. This has to be addressed to the man who started this war, and is hiding now in Texas, while you try to undo his damage.

We the Iraqi People and their resistance demand the following:

1- The fulfillment of all the conditions presented to your government through the mediators you
Sent in 2006.
2- The hand over of all the traitors Collaborators in the green zone to the Iraqi people where
They will be dealt with as any nation would do with in cases of high treason.
3- The full just compensation for our people for the losses they have suffered.
4- The halting of all compensations paid to those who fall under your umbrella in the region from the resources of our people.
5- The return of all land stolen from our country.
