Ok. I know some folks are gonna say - who cares right? Well, I do actually. Britney Spears was played in my household when my daughter was a tween and I did pay attention to the demise of Britney. My concern started when she was pregnant with the second child and was conducting an interview with Matt Laurer. I remember having a long convo on prince.org about this interview. The Org was as cruel as usual. They sliced her up from her hair to her clothes to her chipped fingernail polished. Britney looked a hot mess but I kept trying to point out the look in her eyes. Something was wrong. This was more than Britney making bad life decisions. This child was lost.
Britney has the baby and then we see her lose her mind. She starts hanging with Paris, she stops wearing underwear, she stays high, she strips, she cuts her hair, etc. etc. etc. She forgets she's a mother.
What happen? (shrug) I don't know the girl but there was a part of me that understood. I understood her having to lose it. Her life was orchestrated since she was five. Where was her teenage angst? I didn't have my "teenage angst" until I was like 26. I was the good girl no longer wanting to be held to that standard. When I saw the maddness of Britney, I sorta understood it but I knew she needed to stop the maddness as I did. She was a mother and you have to get your shit together for them. Young mothers don't get to be foolish. We are handle to the same standards as if you are older and seemingly more mature. Brit needed to stop it.
So it seems she got help. Her dad stepped in and now we have Britney back. Do we want her back performing? I wanted her back to be a good mother to the babies NOT to make appearances on MTV, to be given undue awards and make a docu -bull -mentary about her life. Huh? Didn't her downfall make her stop and say, "I still need time away to get with my kids."
Guess not. MTV has the red carpet out for her and others like Paris. If my daughter makes a mistake, I do want her to know she can get back on her feet but it needs to be in all humility. She needs to acknowledge the crap she was in and be changed. America rewards bad behavior way too much. I'm tired of America loving these idiot starlets. It needs to stop. These young women do not need to be celebrated nor admired. Our children believe that their behaviors, no matter good or bad, needs to be admired. I've witnessed kids doing the worse behavior still expecting to be patted on their backs for doing nothing.
Britney doesn't deserve the spot she's been given recently. She needs to be forced to fight her way back. And even though she is completely naked in her new video, (rollin' eyes), I do hope she's learned something.

Luxurious government buildings, seen as bad examples of efficiency, are
back in the spotlight again.

A forum discussion at tianya.cn, a Chinese BBS portal, called for photos
of lavish government office buildings throughout China, and it attracted
a keen response from netizens nationwide. There were more than 1,500
contributions that led to over 70,000 page views in the past week,
according to Guangzhou-based New Express.
The thread, jointly launched by the News Investigation, a news program of
China Central Television (CCTV), and Tianya Club, asked every netizen
to post what they know about lavishly decorated government buildings.
According to Chai Jing, an anchorwoman of News Investigation, the photos
are likely to be used for CCTVs investigative report on extravagant
buildings.
You never know how much money was spent on the building in fact, no
one thinks its necessary to tell you, even though it cost up to a
billion yuan and you paid for it out of your salary. So please get your
camera and shoot photos on the buildings around you, wrote Chai in her
June 22 blog named You are a citizen, and a reporter.
The next day, another thread was launched on the same topic in Tianya
Talk - a section for critical stories at tianya.cn, which also created a
buzz among netizens. Within a week, comments and photos on lavish
buildings across China, including Beijing and Shanghai, made their way to
the club.
Quite a few netizens expressed their excitement and expectation at the
upcoming expose of these luxurious buildings, while some talked about
their indignation at the extravagance of there buildings.
These buildings are usually located far away from the downtown area and
the general population. Its a sad fact, wrote an unidentified netizen.
There were also those suspicious of the upcoming investigative report by
CCTV.
These buildings have been there for a long time in spite of state
regulations, and photos have been circulating all the time. How come CCTV
didnt report on it until today? asked another unnamed netizen.
Some even said the new CCTV building under construction in Beijing is by
itself , as there are rumors that it cost over 10 billion yuan.
However, not all exposed extravagant buildings drew criticism, among them
the Wancheng government building in Shunde and Guangzhou municipal
government building - both in south Chinas Guangdong Province.
The government building in Shunde should not be counted as
. At least it is not beyond the citys economic
sustainability, argued a netizen, while the one in Guangzhou was praised
for staying in use for decades by another.
The Chinese government has toughened its position to rein in wasting
public money this year.
In April, the State Council and the General Office of the Central
Committee of the Communist Party of China issued a notice banning
luxurious facilities inside government office buildings, including lavish
water fountains and hotel-style facilities.
Two months later, a slew of officials were either removed or demoted for
using public funds to construct extravagant buildings.

I understand airbrushing in professional photos. Everyone does it from magazines to promo shoots. But to me, airbrushing is supposed to be about brightening the photo up a bit if the lighting wasnt as good as originally thought. Its about removing blemishes that werent covered well enough by make-up. Its about removing the stray hair hanging in front of someones face that no one noticed until it was too late. Even little things like whitening teeth or deepening a dimple, thats fine.
But this photo of Britney is so overly airbrushed that its bordering on ridiculous - and the worst thing is that I dont understand why. Britney has been looking amazing lately. She looks happy, shes beautiful, and her body is in tip top shape. Why would her promo people feel they had to turn someone who is already beautiful into a wax figure mockery of herself.

Robert Pattinson, accompanied by director Catherine Hardwicke, who drew a packed and very loud crowd at the Soho Apple store Monday night for a fan QA about his vampire film, Twilight, based on the best-selling book by Stephenie Meyer.
The audience, made up mostly of screaming girls, went nuts when Pattinson showed up, shrieking "I love you" to the British thespian. Pattinson responded with a bemused "thank you" to very boisterous declarations of adoration, but told the ladies he's no polished hunk.
"I haven't washed my hair in about six weeks," said Pattinson, 22. "It's disgusting."
Is he anything like Edward Cullen, the bloodsucker who feeds on animals rather than humans? "I have an incredible six-pack. I'm joking," cracked Pattinson. "I can run really fast. I'm good at climbing trees. I always get carried away when I'm kissing people. I just go nuts."
He signed on to do the film because "I liked Catherine. I like the story," said Pattinson. "Done."

This weekend I also learned something new about self care spending money on yourself for things other than food should be a regular thing. Ive been working so hard at watching my spending that I didnt realize that I had cut myself out completely. There is money for groceries, student loan payments, the mortgage, weight watchers, utilities the list could go on for forever money for everything yes I consider weight watchers essential. But I was spending nothing on clothing or girly things like hair or make up. My idea of a haircut is a trim at super cuts once every six months or sometimes less often than that ladies, they dont even blow dry your hair afterwards!. My boyfriend spends more on himself than I do. Well this weekend when the time came to go to a wedding party for the man I always daydreamed of marrying when I was a little girl getting married to someone else -- I KNEW without a doubt that now was the time to put money into looking nice. I went shopping for hours looking for a new outfit. Amazingly, everything I tried on fit in a size 6!! For once, it wasnt that I couldnt zip up the size that I wanted. Unfortunately it was that I couldnt find anything in the fall that I loved. I quoted around fashions because I was shopping in department stores (TJ Max, JC Penney, Kohls). There isnt much fashionable about that, but we have a very limited selection around here.
Finally, out of time and energy, I decided I wasnt going to find a knock out outfit to wear. Instead I changed my attention to myself. If you cant show up in a fantastic outfit, show up with your nails done, makeup on, and hair down! Well, minus the makeup for me So I did just that. I went to get my nails done. I spent $20 on a French manicure (on my own nails no acrylics). I was thrilled! Then I ALMOST got my hair done before swallowing the urge over the cost, and instead bought a very nice hair straightening iron I can use more than once for the same price. The best $50 I have ever spent in my life. I wish I had photos to post our digital camera broke and, you guessed it, I dont want to spend the money on a new one.
It wasnt just that I looked like a different person it was that I felt like a different person. One of my closest friends growing up (Im talking since I was three years old) didnt even recognize me. Our close family friends told me I was looking more and more like my older (skinnier and prettier) sister every day. And the cherry on the top of the dessert As my Aunt was leaving she said Holly I just have to tell you that I was talking to this woman here who said Do you know that girl over there? She is SO beautiful! And she was pointing to you! I thought I had died and gone to heaven.
I know I still have more self esteem work to do and maybe even some more shopping. I only have two pairs of pants I can wear without a belt or risk them falling off. I was thinking about taking my old dress pants (that I never used to wear, so theyre practically brand new) in to get altered so I can wear them. I bought them when I was at my heaviest so they look a little ridiculous now. For some reason, when I was heavy and failing at dieting, I focused on spending my money on things that would help me look better except that I would get home, think about wearing them and then decide against it because I was just too heavy to wear things like that. I think its time to stop wearing my hair in a pony tail day in and day out, stop wearing clothes that are too big, stop believing that Im not worth the time or money
My weight watcher leader has decided it was time to leave our meeting. AKA attendance is down and she's not making enough money to stick around! I still REALLY wanted to weigh in today, but a work meeting came up at the last minute and I missed it. There is another one at 6:00 but I'm still debating whether or not I want to stick around for that long... I'll make it there eventually.

The mix sounds like the foundation of a buddy-cop movie, but it basically summarizes the creative chemistry behind Eastwood's Changeling. It stars Jolie in the true story of a single mother searching for her kidnapped son in Depression-era Los Angeles after the wrong boy is returned to her.
It's fitting that motherhood is central to Jolie's role in the film, which opens in select cities Oct. 24. The actress and her brood of six with actor Brad Pitt have become a global sensation.
Fitting, too, what happened to her on the set. "I got pregnant during filming, yeah," she says, then hesitates, suppressing a smile.
Eastwood, sitting beside her on a couch in a suite at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel, looks stunned and says, "Don't tell me on my watch!"
Jolie curls forward, crosses her legs (in high-heeled black boots) and covers one eye with her hand. "I won't tell you which scene," she half-whispers to him.
Though Changeling is a dark drama, Eastwood and Jolie together bring out each other's playful sides. Eastwood jokingly calls their friendship "Clintalina."
The director, 78, is famously mellow behind the camera, but working with Jolie, 33, his tough-guy bluntness was something she preferred.
Jolie recalls shooting one pivotal scene: At a train station, the mother, Christine Collins, meets the boy who is pretending to be her son and is bullied by police into smiling for the cameras. "It was very frustrating," Jolie says. "I couldn't figure out how to do that scene. I kept thinking, 'How do you respond to something like this? It's not your kid, and somebody is telling you it's your kid.' "
Eastwood recalled the scene, with a touch of sarcasm, "I was a big help. I just said, 'Do it! Just do it.' "
Jolie tells him, "You don't give yourself enough credit. You said to me something like, 'She must be thinking this is a (expletive) joke.' It was a great piece of directing! That little bit of help. I thought, 'It is that way! It must be some kind of cruel joke.' "
Eastwood laughs and says, "I'll remember that the next time I do a French cinema class. 'Oh, yes, I told her ' "
Every parent's 'horror'
Apart from being a mystery about a missing boy, the undercurrent of Changeling is the tragedy of a lone truth-teller dismissed by a society that then tries to destroy her. Police eventually claim she fails to recognize her child because she's mentally unbalanced and threaten her with detention in an asylum. Meanwhile, her real son remains lost, and grisly crimes against children are going undiscovered.
"It's a horror film," says Eastwood, who has seven kids of his own, the oldest 44 and the youngest 11. "It's the worst nightmare an adult could have, especially a woman by herself at a time in the world where there was not a lot of recourse for her."
Eastwood and Jolie say Changeling celebrates the virtue of disobedience.
"I think that's just part of growing up," Jolie says. "You learn to question your parents, you learn to question your teachers. It's the evolution of trying to find your way and not just let any one person or one entity tell you exactly how you should think or feel about anything."
The movie also reveals some of Eastwood and Jolie's shared intensity.
One scene starkly depicts a state prison execution. Eastwood says: "Somebody was saying they thought the execution scene was vivid, and 'Does that mean you approve of capital punishment?' I said, 'When it comes to children, hell, yes!' "
"Yeah," Jolie says, nodding. "If somebody did that to my child, I would go after them."
A momentary silence hangs in the air, and they both look at each other as if they mean it.
'It was so easy to get upset'
Jolie, who in addition to infant twins Knox and Vivienne has Maddox, 7, Pax, 4, Zahara, 3, and Shiloh, 2, says it wasn't necessary to draw on her own maternal instincts for Changeling. Quite the opposite: She tried not to think of her own children.
"It was so personal that I spent a lot of time trying not to think about it," she says. "It was so easy to get upset. It was easier to understand the emotion, but it was so hard to want to allow that to come out. You don't even want to sit and think about something happening to your kid, let alone really let it absorb you and get emotional about it and scream things like, 'I want my son back!' It just makes you want to take a shower and wash it off and get it as far away from you as possible."
To play Collins, who begins as a meek woman, pleading with police instead of accusing or attacking them, Jolie instead drew on another part of her life: her own mother, Marcheline Bertrand, who died of cancer in January 2007.
"Christine is very much like my mother, who was very soft and soft-spoken, and it was hard for her to get angry and fight for something. But she would do anything for her children and could possibly fight that hard, even though she was quite shy. I thought a lot about that and the appreciation of that love." (Her father is the actor Jon Voight, from whom she has been estranged for years.)
'A new kind of family'
Jolie's new family has come to define her. The world watched as she, and later Pitt, created a family through adoption (three of their children are from Cambodia, Ethiopia and Vietnam) and biological reproduction (three more). She has said they'd like at least one more.
"They are a new kind of family," says Suzanne Riss, editor in chief of Working Mother magazine. "Families have welcomed adopted children long before Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, but they brought a new level of visibility and acceptability. They symbolize a generosity of spirit that is irresistible."
And, she says, "she and Brad Pitt seem to be very involved. People love to see him walking around with a kid on his shoulders and taking them bike racing. They consider themselves parents first."
Jolie describes the latest additions to her brood in terms familiar to any parent: "When you have more than three kids, it's just chaos anyway, no matter how many you add."
Eastwood nods, smiling like an affectionate uncle who has been there before: "Once you get beyond two, that's it," he says, slicing the air with his hand.
"It's even more beautiful chaos in the house," she says of the 2-month-old twins. "They're lovely. And all I wished for was that they'd be healthy, because I was nervous since they were twins. They are, and they're great."
Not only healthy, but voracious. "I was late (to the interview) because I was feeding them," says Jolie, whose family photos of her breast-feeding appear in November's W magazine.
But there is a possible drawback to her high-profile family life. Tom O'Neil, Oscar analyst for TheEnvelope.com, has been writing that Jolie's passionate performance has the potential to land her a second Academy Award, this time for best actress. (She won supporting actress for 1999's Girl, Interrupted.)
"She's the victim of injustice who finally battles back. She's vulnerable but strong, and she admirably does not play it on the ceiling," O'Neil says. But he cautions the parallel between her real-life mothering image and the woman in the film could backfire. "It's so close to home and who she really is that it could seem less like a performance."
Eastwood, of course, believes in her talent, but even he was wary of her presence at first. They didn't know each other before Changeling, but when Eastwood got the script, she already had expressed interest, and he said he'd heard she was "a really great gal and a real pro. A real pro is what I like to hear."
But, he says, "when we were going to start this film, I thought 'Here is somebody who is on the cover of every magazine, and she gets a tremendous amount of attention, she and Brad together, but by herself as well.' I thought, 'This person could be a real jaded creature.' But she isn't. She's very normal. I joke with her. I called her Angie Dickinson all the time, and she never got upset."
Their work habits meshed well, too.
"She seemed to like the style I like to shoot in, which is not exactly dawdling," Eastwood says. "I like to find things in people before they have the chance to overthink it. I like to hear it the first time it has been spoken out loud. And she came extremely prepared. As prepared as any actress I've ever been with worked with. Excuse me."
He smiles politely, almost sheepishly, a little playfully.
Jolie says she was a bit more exuberant when she learned he signed on. "I got all excited, like a little girl, and jumped around. Then I was very shy on my first day."
She joins in pumping Eastwood for information about Gran Torino, his drama scheduled to arrive in December, in which he stars as a racist Korean War veteran who bonds with an immigrant neighbor over his classic car. And she teases, "You still haven't found a role for me in the next movie, though, have you?"
Eastwood pauses momentarily, surmises her figure in a tight black dress, and jokes: "You could play an automobile in Gran Torino."
While talking about the dowdy Depression-era costumes and makeup, Eastwood casually refers to Jolie as "the world's most beautiful woman."
That makes her slide over and sink down into the cradle of his arm, cooing, "That's why he's him. That's why the girls just go, 'ooohhhh ' "
When Jolie is about to describe her impressions of Eastwood, he gets up and pretends he's going to leave the room. "This is really hard in front of him," she says. "That's it, Clint. Go outside! I'm going to really embarrass you. I've never seen you embarrassed, actually."
After feigning toward the door, Eastwood instead grabs a bottle of water and returns to his spot beside her on the couch, prepared to squirm.
Jolie lets him have it with both barrels. "He is, to me, very much the ideal man. Maybe it's generational, but I think we could use more of it. People look up to him. He is absolutely who he is. He doesn't apologize to anybody. He has very, very strong, decisive opinions and is very gracious as a man, as a friend and somebody on set as a director, too."
Eastwood looks as if he's ready to head for the door again. And the way she's talking, maybe Pitt will kick it down first.
Jolie laughs. Eastwood may be the ideal man, she says, "but Brad knows that he's my ideal man."
Eastwood jokingly suggests that if they work together again, it should be "The Tomb Raider and Dirty Harry."
Who would win in a showdown?
Eastwood whistles at this question the hollow, mournful tune from his old Sergio Leone spaghetti Westerns.
"I wouldn't want to face him," Jolie says. "I want to be on the same side.

Weiner, who expected by many to be the front-runner in the 2009 mayoral race, told reporters this morning that he would not drop out of the race despite Mayor Bloomberg's plans.
“The mayor said the days of Boss Tweed will forever be over, but, no, they’re back,” Weiner declared on a conference call with bloggers.
Mr. Bloomberg is expected to spend about $80 million in his re-election campaign — $20 million of it dedicated to attacking Mr. Weiner, according to the New York Times.
It really makes me wonder which candidate I will support. I had planned to support Weiner, before Bloomberg announced his re-election bid.

Doctors found the nail in my head after a CT scan, but at first, I had no idea how it got into my head.
He later remembered working in a factory in Zhejiang Province four years ago where a machine belt studded with nails broke, sending nails flying into his face.
