If Freddie Mercury of the rock band Queen were alive today, would he have voted Yes or No on Proposition 8, California's heavily controversial gay marriage amendment? I believe that Freddie Mercury would have cast a Yes vote, yes meaning, in the case of Proposition 8, that he would favor traditional marriage between a man and his wife, and not gay marriage.
Why? The love of Freddie Mercury's life was a woman named Mary Austin, in spite of his many sexual liasons with men. Freddie said that he considered Mary Austin to be his wife. *
Did Freddie Mercury write the song entitled "Love of My Life," for a man? No, the song "Love of My Life" was written for Mary Austin. **

"In the early 1970s Mercury had a long-term relationship with a girlfriend named Mary Austin (whom he had met through guitarist Brian May). He lived with Austin for many years. However, by the mid-1970s, the singer began an affair with a male record executive at Elektra Records; this ultimately resulted in the end of his relationship with Austin.[40] Mercury and Austin nevertheless remained close friends through the years, with Mercury often referring to her as his only true friend. In a 1985 interview, Mercury said of Austin, "All my lovers asked me why they couldn't replace Mary [Austin], but it's simply impossible. The only friend I've got is Mary, and I don't want anybody else. *To me, she was my common-law wife. To me, it was a marriage. We believe in each other, that's enough for me."[41] **He also wrote several songs about Austin, the most notable of which is 'Love of My Life'. Mercury was also the godfather of Mary's eldest son, Richard.[33]" 1
In fact, Freddie loved Mary so much that he left most of his enormous wealth Mary Austin.
"In his will Mercury left the vast majority of his wealth, including his home and recording royalties, to Mary Austin, and the remainder to his parents and sister. He further left 500,000 to his chef Joe Fanelli, 500,000 to his personal assistant Peter Freestone, 100,000 to his driver Terry Giddings, and 500,000 to Jim Hutton.[50] Mary Austin continues to live at Mercury's home, Garden Lodge, Kensington, with her family.[50] Hutton moved back to the Republic of Ireland permanently in 1995, where he still lives. He was involved in a 2000 biography of Mercury, Freddie Mercury, the Untold Story, and also gave an interview for The Times for what would have been Mercury's 60th birthday.cf. [46]" 1

The singer Micheal Jackson has decided to give up the title to his Neverland ranch and transfer the deed to a company that he partly controls. He filed a grant deed on Monday on the ranch that would make the new owner an entity called the Sycamore Valley Ranch Co. Sycamore Valley Ranch Co. is a joint venture between Jackson and an affiliate of Colony Capital LLC.
Earlier this year, Jackson went into default on the $24.5 million that he owes on the property and Colony Capital bailed him out. Colony Capital is a Los Angeles-based real estate investment company that is ran by the billionaire Tom Barrack. The company also owns several properties in Las Vegas, including the Las Vegas Hilton. Neverland Ranch was called Sycamore Valley Ranch before Jackson bought it in 1988 and turned it into a miniature amusement park where thousands of children were invited to the property.
Jackson has been struggling to pay his debts to the ranch since his arrest in 2003 where he was accused of molesting a 13 year boy at the ranch. He has not been to the property since being acquitted of the charges.

So, can we talk, you know, privately about Angelina Jolie?
I know, I know, shes a saint and one dare not speak ill of cultural idols, only there are a few things that are kind of unsettling about her, and not just that she once wore then-husband Billy Bob Thorntons blood clot around her neck or that shes prone to french kissing her brother in public.
Admittedly, Jolie has grown up quite a bit since exhibiting all that creepy behaviour and, at 33, is today the picture of serene motherhood. (And anorexia, too, but well get to that in a few paragraphs.)
These days Ms. Jolie is all about her kids, three of them adopted from Third World locales where she has been working, tirelessly to be sure, as a goodwill ambassador for the UN Refugee Agency.
She signed up for the job after a film shoot in Cambodia, where she was appalled at the conditions faced by the local children, and she even returned home as a single mom with mohawked baby Maddox, who is now seven, adding to the clan in short order with the adoptions of Zahara from Ethiopia, whos now three, and almost-five-year-old Pax from Vietnam.
Jolie reportedly gives away a third of her substantial income and is constantly jetting off to places like the Congo, using her considerable presence and profile to help raise awareness about the plight of the planets less fortunate.
Along the way she hooked up with pretty boy Brad Pitt, openly stealing him from his American sweetheart wife Jennifer Aniston and then promptly popping out three kids of their own two-year-old Shiloh and four-month-old twins Knox and Vivienne something she said would never do because she always thought it was selfish to give birth when there were so many needy children already out there, but clearly changed her mind when she laid eyes on Mr. Pitt. And who can blame her?
Anyway, the unsettling stuff.
Well, theres that whole stealing someones husband thing, which is unseemly at best but wouldnt be anyones business, and its not like we were on Team Aniston anyway, except why did Jolie have to blab to the world about it in a recent interview, gloat even, by beaming that not all children get to watch a movie, in this case Mr. Mrs. Smith, in which their parents fell in love.
So not cool, to paraphrase the ex-Mrs. Pitt.
And then theres the acting thing which, this week, Jolie vowed to retire from, what with all the kids and her apparent need to up stakes and move house about every three weeks.
On the publicity circuit this week for The Changeling, her new movie, Jolie hinted that she would quit acting to spend more time with the family.
I dont plan to keep acting very long, she said in an interview. m ready to do a few things now and fade away and get ready to be a grandma one day.
But before you could say Holy My Dad is Jon Voight, she backtracked, telling reporters at a news conference Tuesday that m not making some retirement announcement. I have a big family and a lot of responsibility at home, and I have the good fortune to financially not have to work all the time. I just feel privileged that I get to be home a lot. Maybe eventually Ill stop (acting).
To which one, if they were truly honest, truly a movie buff, would say: Rats, we were so close.
I know, thats mean, but seriously, she has made 34 films since 1982, too many of them box-office disappointments. And, honestly, can you name five of them?
Lets see, Lara Croft, a couple of times. Oh, and 1999s Girl, Interrupted, in which she was good enough to earn an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress.
And The Changeling, out this month and which I havent seen but fully intend to, because I hear her performance as a based-on-a-true-story mother who loses her child and is then committed to an institution has Academy Award written all over it.
That would be nice because, truth is, most of her movies and performances have been less than memorable and yet, yet, shes considered one of the worlds most accomplished, and certainly famous, actresses. And shes paid accordingly, earning between $12 and $15 million a movie, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Only Reese Witherspoon is currently earning more per movie than Jolie.
And then theres the Skeletor thing.
Jolie has a lovely countenance and its not hard to understand why men, especially, are attracted to her: theres that slightly dangerous sexual mystery, the bee-sting lips, the tattoos, the long curly hair, the bedroom eyes, the lesbian affair.
But whats with the visible bones, and the sinew, and the rail-thin profile with those x-ray arms with the big claw-like hands that, when theyre not attached to a tiny child, hang languidly past her knees, the blood vessels popping.
Its odd, too, how other celebrities are hounded beyond belief by the celebrity press for being skinny beyond healthy belief Nicole Richie, Lara Flynn Boyle, Teri Hatcher, Kelly Ripa, Nicole Kidman, Kate Bosworth, Nicky Hilton and Keri Russell are just a few examples and yet no one, not one gossip columnist or pop culture pundit or opinionated television doctor, has ever mentioned that Jolie is far more scary-skinny than she should be.
Does it matter?
You bet. We are living in a time when celebrities like movie stars and pop singers and fashion models, indeed, the entertainment industry in general, hold an unholy influence over our young people, from their social behavior to the way they dress to their self-image, and when we as a society decide to place someone like Jolie on that cultural pedestal and no one could argue shes floating on the top why arent we questioning just what it is that she represents, just what it is that makes her such a cherished icon.
But then maybe Im the only one who finds Jolie, the feted humanitarian Oscar winner but also the adulterous anorexic unmarried mom, just a little unsettling in that particular role.

Helping your young acting hopeful prepare for a successful acting career can be an incredibly rewarding experience for the parent. All parents like seeing their children being creative, expressing themselves, and, most importantly, having fun.
It should be stated, however, that forcing a child to participate in any pursuit they dont like is not just counterproductive but harmful to the child. Your role, as the acting hopefuls parent, is to caringly nurture your childrens expressed interests and not force them into a pursuit in order to live vicariously through them. One would have to be born under a rock to have missed some of the more public examples of what can happen when children are forced into an acting career they never wanted.
That being said, there are some very simple pointers you can follow that will have a powerful impact in the immediate sense and create long-term opportunities for the professional acting success of your son or daughter.
Start Early: Human beings, it would seem, are all natural born actors. Early in their lives, they often spend entire afternoons play-acting imaginary scenarios. Sadly, as many of us get older, we forget how much fun acting can be. By exposing your youngsters, at an early age, to the concept of acting, you are, in effect, introducing them to something at which they are already. Regardless of whether its soccer, football, chess, or acting, childhood pursuits should always be fun. By giving your children an early glimpse of acting while they are young and predisposed to the concept, you dramatically increase the odds of their long-term success. Acting Camps provide the perfect vehicle for your children to immerse themselves in the creative fun acting can provide. What they gain from the camp experience has as much to do with you, the parent, as it does the camp itself. With the internet woven into the fabric of our lives, there is simply no excuse for parents not doing due-diligence research on any acting camp they are considering. A little research time, up front, can save you a lot of money, effort, and disappointment later.
After your children have started their first camp, make sure that they are having fun. If not, first try finding a better-suited program and see if that resolves the issue. If not, you may need to consider the fact that acting may not be of interest to them at that point in their lives. If that is the case, and the situation is handled carefully, it may well become one as they get older. Forcing the issue now will virtually guarantee that your child will never enjoy the art. If there isnt a fit, back off and give them some time. Find out what it was about the camp experience they didnt like. More importantly, find out what things (even if only a few) they actually did like about the camp. Pay attention to these answers. There is a good chance that, armed with this information, you can research other camps that may be better suited to your childs tastes and artistic needs. Find a different camp, try again next year, and until then dont push or make a big deal out of it.
Be Involved: Acting is a passion and, like flame, it needs fuel in order to burn. A parents support and involvement has no equal as that fuel. Acting Camp is about far more than just what happens during the time your child attends. What happens before and after camp is as important as the camp itself. Furthermore, if you have an uninterested attitude towards your childrens pursuits then their attitude will soon follow your own. Help them prepare for the camp experience beforehand. If you have done your research, then you are well-versed in what your children will be learning and doing. Help them feel prepared for it and they will have the kind of fun that only self-confidence brings. After Camp is over, spend a lot of time revisiting what they experienced and learned. Often, there are exercises and drama games that can be fun for the whole family to recreate. Children look to their parents for validation. Be that validation for your young actor or actress and you have armed them well for success.
Be Selective: Acting Camps are as varied as the children who attend them. Take the time to research, research, research. If your children are new to the art, look for fun-filled camps that focus more on the enjoyment of the experience than the knowledge gained. As your children progress, they will want, as well as need, more challenges for their minds. Complacency destroys drive, and an unchallenged mind can hardly avoid becoming complacent. Acting Camp should always be fun, but as your children grow they will develop a sense of pride in their craft and will be eager to take the challenge to the next level. Do your homework and be prepared to provide that challenge in their next camp.
Preparing For the Next Step: Eventually your children (and I use that term loosely here) will be ready to move on to acting school. As you have watched and participated with your children in their acting youth, youll no doubt have picked up on where their artistic talents and drive really lie. Research schools that have well-respected programs, and degrees, in those areas. This next step is an expensive one, so doing your research here actually does pay. Just as acting camps have helped form your childrens creative foundations, so acting schools will take it to that next, and this time, professional level.
