Feature Interview by Brad Balfour

British director Danny Boyle is one of those filmmakers (much like iconic director Martin Scorsese) who makes movies that generate a buzzjust because his name is attached to itregardless of its stellar cast. Ever since the 52-year-old Boyle made "Trainspotting," a story of a group of shambling Scottish drug addicts, his kinetic, crazy-quilt visual style combined with an ever-twisting storyline has a defined a sort of contemporary filmcraft. That approach was employed with subsequent films like his hyper zombie thriller, "28 Days Later," the sweet-hearted "Millions" and the dark apocalyptic sci-fi tale, "Sunshine."

Now with "Slumdog Millionaire," Boyle has not only has applied his signature visual and storytelling attack to a classic rags-to-riches teen tale but has located it in one of the most crazy-qulit locations of all time, the Indian mega-city of Mumbai (formerly known as Bombay). And at a time when grappling with the clash between local culture and the new globalism is a necessity, a film like "Slumdog Millionaire" comes in handy as an aid to understanding a 21st century world.

With the help of a full Indian crew, Boyle tells the tale of slumdog teen Jamal Malik (Dev Patel) who becomes a contestant on the Hindi version of "Who Wants to be A Millionaire?"something he does in an effort to find his true love, Latika, who is both a high class whore and an ardent fan of the show. With Oscar-talk buzzing in the background (the film won the People's Choice award at this year's Toronto Film Festival), Boyle talked with a small set of writers in anticipation of the film's release.

Q: As a stranger to India, how was it making a film that's a portrait of this incredible country?

DB: You obviously feel a lot of responsibility. You worry about yourself as a westerner. I didnt want to make a film where westerners go around India, or anything like that. But still, you are a westerner.

I just wanted to make it distinctively and subjectively as possible, so you felt like you were looking at it from the inside. One of the dangers of India is that it has that "wow" factor where you go, Look at that!

It feels like youre using it as some kind of thing to just stare at, and they hate that. We did these film tests at the beginning, and it was a bit like that. Theres a danger with cameramen. For a cameraman to shoot in India is a dream come true.

Photographically, its the place for coffee table books. So it is a danger for cinematographers, because they go, Wow! The colors! I didnt want that. I wanted to be hurtled into it.

I love action movies, even the bad ones, because theres something about why films are called "motion pictures." Its where it all began when our ancestors sat there and saw motion, moving. And I really believe that about films. Theres a kineticism about them thats wonderful; they shouldnt always be a reflective medium. It doesnt suit reflection.

I remember meeting [actor] Tim Robbins. I was trying to get him to play this part in a film. It was a really good part but he said he wouldn't do it. I said, I cant understand why you wont do it.

He said, Because he dies at the end. I said, He said, Nobody remembers anyone who has died. And its true.

You just move forward; its all about forward motion. And I tried to bring that to it, really. Bombay feels like its living in fast-forward anyway.

Q: So then how did you, Danny Boyle, come to do "Slumdog Millionaire?"

DB: They sent a script. The agent said its a film about "Who Wants to be a Millionaire?" And I said,

My agent wants me to do American films. Hes always trying to get me to do a film here, but I never do. And then I saw screenwriter Simon [Beaufoy]s name on it. Id never met him, but I thought, "I'd better read at least five pages of it. "

As soon as I read 10 pages of it You know when youre going to do something. I doesnt always happen, but sometimes you just know. And you shouldnt wait until you get to the end, because when you get to the end all the realities of filmmaking kick in: how will we cast? Will we be able to raise enough money? Who will distribute it? All that.

Q: Your films are known for their kinetic charge, for the frenetic editing and the wonderful shots that you get. When you read the script, did that start bubbling up right away? Is that what you see? Do you have a vision?

DB: Its very difficult to describe; it sort of vibrates. Theres a great screenwriter named David BenioffI read this screenplay he wrote the other day; its excellent. A piece of skilled screenwriting, and yet you dont feel that vibration yourself, personally about doing it. And probably, the stuff you do is probably not technically as good as this screenplay. But for some reason it vibrates.

I remember with "Trainspotting," when I read the book [by Irvine Welsh]I can virtually quote it verbatimI remember reading that first page and thinking: "were going to make this." And thats just one page. I remember thinking that. You have these instincts. I remember meeting Freida [Pinto, who play the adult version of Jamal's love, Latika] for this and thinking, "I bet thats her."

You dont get that for everybody or everything, but when you do get it, it comes naturally. It just pops. You should always follow that instinct because theres something there you dont really understand fully, and thats a good thing. Cause youll find out about it when youre making it. Its funny like that; I cant explain it anymore than thats the truth. Its not more complex than that, or more cunning than that or anything.

Q: I was amazed to see how you applied your style to this film. At first I didnt see how it made sense; then it did. When did you know you could apply the Danny Boyle style to this movie? How did you figure out how it worked?

DB: A lot of its the script. Beaufoy did an amazing job. The book is rigid. The book is like 12 chapters, 14 chapters, and each chapter is a question and answerand its like a series of short stories. It would never have worked as a film like that. What Simon did was this very clever thing where he fed the material in early, so sometimes you got the answers way before even the question was asked. Sometimes you didn you had to wait. And it makes you feel very intelligentit made me feel intelligent, and I always love that [laughs].

You feel it, and you start to see it. We went as soon as we were there and walked through areas of Bombay. Theres nothing to look at, really. Theres no architecture, just people. And youve got to like people, and I do like people a lot. If you like that, youve got plenty of them. A billion people live there, and that enough for a plant, never mind quite a small country, really. Thats where you get your energy from.

Q: You had the great makings of a documentary with the wild scenarios and experiences that came from this.

DB: Theres a guy who shot the whole time, and they say its very good. I havent seen it yet, but theyre getting it ready for the DVD. There are so many stories, and yet what matters, more than anything, is your attitude. You have to go in with the right attitude. You cant control it.

Directors are really about control, and thats one of the things you try to do all of the time: control experience, capture it. And you cant do that there. Its like trying to stop the sea; forget it. Youve just got to plunge in and go with it. And its a lot of risk taking. Youre not certain that youve got stuffyou have to wait till you get back. Actually, youve got a much greater result than you thought you had.

Q: Co-director Loveleenwhat was that about?

DB: She was the casting director, Loveleen Tandan, who did an amazing job. It was quite a big cast, and I didnt know anybody, virtually no one. And I realized that I needed her on the set. She wants to be a director as well, and she can do it, you can tell. It wasnt just for the kidswho only spoke Hindiit was for everything, really. And I could test things against her, culturally, and stuff like that. When I knew I wanted to make a mistake, do something incorrect, because you do do thatfilms have their own logic which isnt applicable to the country necessarily. Then I sent her off to do the second unit.

The second unit had been shooting very badly, and then I realized, I should send her out with it As soon as I sent her out with it, the stuff that came back was like fantastic. So we called her "co-director" because she deserves it. [She] and the first assistant director, this guy called Raj Acharya, and the guy that did the live sound, Resul Pookuttythey were very special for the film.

Q: What did you do to balance the grim moments with the happier parts?

DB: Its very difficult to answer that question because you dont think about things like that till you talk to journalists. Then journalists come up with things like that; then they come up with things that connect films. But you dont think like that when youre making them. Well, I dont anyway. I dont think, This bits so tough. Hows it ever going to fit with the happier here. You try to make each bit as intense an experience as possible. And if they dont go together, youll probably never see the film.

Q: Theres an intuitive sense of whats balanced?

DB: Yeah, and I think a writer writes like that intuitively as well. You also, for me anyway, you love variation; and that suits India because there are such extremes. And I love that sense of hitting a different note in a film. Thats one of the reasons I love music in film because you can often have a tone of a film thats just similar or too flat, and you can pop it with music. And it just suddenly feels like a different film. Its one of the wonderful ways music works.

Theres lots of ways you can work on it, but without intellectualizing it. Its weird doing these kinds of conversation because you become aware of things like that. I always worry about doing things like that because you can carry these conversations over the next film. But you don you have a kind of amnesia. Its weirdyou also have amnesia about the realities of filmmaking, about how difficult it is sometimes. You never consider that. You think: thats great! Lets do this.

Q: You used M.I.A.'s song Paper Planes during that train sequence; it was heard everywhere this summer.

DB: I know. I came back from work one day, Id been editing, and my daughter said, You should see this trailer. Shes 17she spends most of her time on Japanese websites downloading illegal copies of "The Office." You should see this, she said. s really good. Its a really good use of Paper Planes. I thought, oh no; but its a great trailer.

Weve got a lovely remix of it, too. I met [singer M.I.A.], because originally shes from London; she's Sri Lankan [by heritage]. She lives here [in New York City] now. I called her in to see the film, because I like the musicians to see the film. And she liked the film a lot. She's a very smart girlshe gave me a couple of really good notes, which you dont get from peoplereally good notes. Then I phoned her up to do the rest of the music, and shes a big fan of [soundtrack composer A. R.] Rahmans. When she was a kid she worshipped him.

Q: Did you make changes based on her notes?

DB: Yes I did. We were chatting and she said, Do you want me to say a couple of things? because she was very complimentary. She said, We dont really know how he got on the show. How did he get on the actual show? And I hadnt really answered that question.

Often times you get very bad notes from people. Someone who sits there, whos from another world completelythis hip-hop, cool New Yorker she is nows really smart.

Q: Were there specific filmseither Bollywood ones or just films about Indiathat you looked at before or during production?

DB: Not so much on this film. I dont know why.

Q: Do you do it on other films?

DB: Yes, definitely. Usually, when we have these conversations, Ill mention the kind of films.

Q: Did you do a lot of historical research?

DB: Yeah. The main book I read, the only book you need to read, is [Suketu Mehta's] "Maximum City: Bombay Lost and Found." I read that all the time, and part of the time I thought I was adapting that, and not "Q and A" by Vikas Swarup, the book we were actually meant to be adapting.

Im a bit worried about [author] Vikas Swarup seeing it. Hes seeing it soon. Im a bit worried about a) him not liking it, b) him suing us [laughs]. So my main research was, I guess, that.

But when I got there, there were three films that I had never heard of that I did watch that did influence the film in some way. Ones called "Satya," and its as good a film Ive seen. It stars and is written by our police constable, the guy who tortures [Jamal]. Hes called Saurabh Shukla. Hes an amazing writer, and a terrific character actor.

Theres another film called "Company," a film about gangsters in Bombay. And another film called "Black Friday" which is about bombings in Mumbai, made by a young guy called Anurag Kashyap, a fantastic film made with very little money, but is a really good film. They were like inspirations while we were making this film. Its good to know that its not all Bollywood musicals. Its not [only] the kind of standard stuff that they do.

Q: What was it about novice actor Dev Patel that made him Jamal?

DB: I met all these guys in Mumbai, and the casting was done in Mumbai. I met loads of them, and they're really talented young guys there. But if you want to get in the movies in Bollywood and youre 18 or 20, youve got to be able to get a shirt off.

They stand under waterfalls in Switzerland and they do these song and dance moves, and theyve got to be ripped. And they're all like beefcake, and you know when guys cant put their arms down cause they have all this muscle mass? They're 18; they're only just beyond kidsand their heads are really small. They havent put any weight on their heads. So youve got these tiny little heads and big bodies; that was just wrong for the film.

Jamal's an underdog; hes supposed to be a guy who apparently has nothing. So, my daughter said, You should see this guy in 'Skins'. Its this [television] program we have in the UK; its quite a racy program. I watched it, and he played a fairly small comic part in it, but he was very good, I thought. He was great, very serious in the craft.

And he had that well we didnt always agree about stuff. We fought a couple of times, which is good, because, honestly, I have a bit of a reputation. And he was prepared to say, No, I dont think thats right. I dont think I should do it like that.

When you get that, its good. If they just do what you tell them, its kind of one dimensional in a way. Theyve got to take it over themselvesthat's a lead actor. Hes got that. Hes stubborn. Thats good; thats what he had.

And Jamals like that: nothings going to stop him, whatever it is... That scene when he jumps in the shit, thats his character. His dream is to have Bachan's autograph and nothing will stand in his way. Hes a bit like that.

Q: Was it important to have that connection between the three different actors [who play Jamal at the ages of 8, 12 and 18]?

DB: Yeah. Its tricky because if you find one person, you might not find someone else that look like each other. Mostly you just hope the audience will just go with it. That theyll just accept. Its great to have some kind of connection between them. We had to all together in rehearsalI tried to get them to copy each others mannerisms. I wanted it to feel coherent.

Q: How did you find the children in the movie; were they from the slums?

DB: The performances werent difficult because theyre all really good actors. The kids there love acting. They say, Do you want the look? [laughs]" Once you get them to understand the world that theyre in, they're terrific. They dont feel a separation between themselves, and film. Its like herefilm is a natural part of life. It is in India as well. Everybodys been to the cinema, and all the time. Even seven year olds have seen lots of stuff. Finding them was really down to Loveleen [Tandan, the co-director in India].

Initially the film was written completely in English. When we got there, and saw the seven year olds who spoke English, it didnt work because theyre not that deft with English at seven and eight. They get better when they get into their teens, and it wasnt really working, so [Loveleen] said, We should really do it in Hindi.

I thought, what is Warner Brothers going to say? She translated it. She adapted it, because you cant literally translate it. As soon as we did it, it suddenly came alive. It felt so real. So I rang Warner Brothers, and said, re going to do the first bit in Hindi with English subtitles.

Q: They dumped the movie.

DB: That was for different [reasons].

Q: So what happened with Warner Brothers?

DB: When they closed Warner Independent, we were just one of a number of films that [were in limbo]we were shot; we were edited; we were very far down the line when we heard [about that]. And you just thought thats going to be it. We wont get theatrical release. In the melee, there are so many casualties in the process, well wind up on DVD, especially because we dont have a star in it. Its got no platform, no profile, nothing. I remember thinking about what I learned in India, and I thought, "itll be okay. Just go with it, well see."

And then things began to happen. We got to make shuffling noises at Telluride and Toronto [film festivals]. Suddenly the studio goes, "What? What was that shuffle noise?"

Then you get a couple of journalists sniffing around it. John Hall at the LA Times was sniffing around it. And that makes the studio go, "What? What?" And then, to give Warner credit, they showed it to Fox Searchlight, which they shouldnt have done technically because if youre going to show it, you should show it to all the buyers. But they showed it to him because they thought if anyone could release this filma third of which is in Hindi [laughs]it would be him. And he picked it up and ran with it, and here we are.

Q: What led you to put this Bollywood ending on it?

DB: If youve lived and worked there for eight months, if you live and work in Bombay, you cant leave without a dance [laughs]. You cant. It would be like making a film about America without a motorcar. You just cant do it. It would be wrong. It would be so fake.

The key thing was whether we should put it inside the film linked to a question, or whether we put it at the end of the film, as it is. So we decided to put it at the end of the film to celebrate [Jamal and Latikas] love. Its not actually a sendup of Bollywood. Its genuine, absolutely genuine. Their love of movies, and love of dancing, and their love of song is something to be absolutely celebrated, even though we may not be able to watch some of the films.

Q: Did you have any trouble with ratings [for "Slumdog Millionaire"] here?

DB: Yes, its an R. They said it was because of the intensity. Theres nothing we can do about it.

Q: Is there a message you want people to get out of this? I know after "Millions," kids were inspired to raise money to build wells in Africa. Is there something you want people to do after this or take inspiration from it?

DB: I think when you elect Barack Obama, the worlds going to become a bigger place again. Thats all you get from doing something like that. Youre not there to teach anybody anything; youre there to learn about yourself. These people that live in slums are extraordinaryso generous, so resourceful. I want it so it will be something that theyll like, really. I hope they get to see it on a pirate copy somewhere [laughs].

Q: Will we ever see your much-missed "Alien Love Triangle" come out?

DB: Its sort of beginning to become a bit more visible. They showed it at this little cinema in Wales, in the UKthe smallest cinema in the UKthey have twelve seats. It was an old railway carriage, and this guy converted it thirty years ago into a cinema. He was retiring it, and closing it. He asked if we could show it as its final film, and they did. They showed it. Kenneth Branagh, whos in it, went alongI was in Indiato present the film. I think thats a sign, that hopefully, it will appear somewhere soon.

Q: Is there anything else in the pipeline?

DB: Nothing at all. I tend to work on one thing only at a time. It drives my agent mad.

We just have a taste for you today of a larger interview that is going to come to you sometime during the following week. This piece is with director Wayne Wang on behalf of his beautiful film Thousand Years of Good Prayers, which concerns a young Chinese woman named Yilan and her relationship with her father, who has come to visit her in America for the first time upon hearing that she has gotten divorced. The film is a masterpiece, incredibly subtle and moving, and for half an hour he and I discuss the film and those in it, including the two Mormons, the blonde forensic scientist, and, of course, Yilan and her father. We discuss teenagers and teenage tastes. We discuss Obama. Have fun.

Hi!
So youre still in high school?

Yeah.
Okay, good! [laughter] You know, in Princess of Nebraska [the companion film to Thousand Years], the leading lady was in high school when we filmed her. The producer and I had to go to the principal to get permission. Anyway, the principal made us promise that she would still study hard and get good grades and graduate.

Yeah, well, Im sure it made filming more difficult too because of the restricted number of hours [during which minors in entertainment are allowed to work].
Well, they released her for two weeks, at least, from school. Which was great.

So here you are in New York to promotea different movie. To promote A Thousand Years of Good Prayers. You like New York?
I love New York. I actually live here part of the time; I have an apartment here which I actually got years ago when we were doing some other films here. And Ive worked here a lot too. I shot two or three films here. So I love New York. But its changing! [laughs]

Im not sure I can offer much input on that. Im too young to have experienced the change!
Yeah? What part of town do you live in?

I live in Brooklyn.
Yeah? Well, Brooklyn is changing too. Even when you were younger.

Oh, yeah!
Yeah. Anyway.

So where do you live the other part of the time? Dont you live on the West Coast?
I live in San Francisco, where my mother and mother-in-laws are. And theyre getting pretty old, so this last year we had to do a lot to sort of take care of them.

Well, San Franciscos a beautiful city.
Yes. I like it there too, so Im very lucky! [laughs]

So your movie A Thousand Years of Good Prayers was based on a short story of the same name. How did you find that short story?
Well, Im very good friends with the editor for Francis Ford Coppolas magazine All-Story. His name is Michael Ray, and he reads almost everything and almost everything comes across his path. And he told me that this youngwell, [the author in question, Yiyun Li] is not young any more. Shes thirty and shes got two kids

Well, thats young to everybody but me! [laughter]
Well, okay! Its young to me, too. And youre really young! No, she lives in the Bay Area, she finished this collection of short stories thats about to be published, and she teaches at Mills. And [Michael Ray] said I should read Thousand Years. And I really liked it. It resonated in so many ways for me. And then I talked to her about writing the screenplay for the movie. Well, I worked with her. I sort of talked her through what worked for me, what didnt work, what were the different elements we needed. Yeah.

Well, the movie thats come out of it is this really delicate piece and it deals a lot with both the father-daughter relationship and also language barriers. And I read that you were drawn to the story because you saw yourself in the father-daughter dynamic?
Yeah. I was more the daughter in this case. [laughs] I came up to America on my own, and even though I went back to visit a few times, my father didnt come over to me until maybe ten or twelve years later. And by that time Id become pretty Americanlearned a new language, a new culture. And it was very difficult dealing with my father, especially over dinners, and he asked a lot of probing questions about things, and I just didnt really want to answer sometimes. And I know he was also kind of looking through my things in the house when I was gone during the day. And there were a lot of conflicts growing up. So those are the kinds of things that all really kind of made me like the story and really get inside that story.

Yeah. I mean, Im not familiar with the original short story; are there story elements that you added?
There we some things we changed. We didnt have a whole lot added. For example, the lover was Romanian instead of Russian, and we made his role a little less also. We made him Russian because in Spokane, where we were filming, there were actually more Russians. And the Chinese and the Russians were very connected with each other. So I thought it would be a better metaphor, in a way, about their past together. And the ending with the Iranian woman was changed. In the book it ended more between him and the Iranian woman, but I didnt want to end with that. I wanted to end with the father and the daughter. So those are the kinds of changes and things that we did.

So you shot in Spokanewas the original story purposely set in?
It was set in Iowa, which is the reason, when I spoke to Yiyun about it, was that she wanted it in a very sort of nondescript middle American town. And Spokane is very much like that too, and there happened to be a production company that could help me make the movie really cheap there! [laughter]

Of course, theres the subplot of the fathers language barrier and his struggling to improve his English while in America. So how did you approach that?
Well, that was a lot from the actor [Henry O], whos very anal with that stuff. Because he knew English really well and Chinese really well, he was constantly trying to figure out, If I spoke Chinese and English, what would I do wrong? So he was making that work, and hed constantly send me pages of these things. So thats basically how we worked at it a lot. And I used to teach English as a second language, so I knew enough about what kinds of things the Chinese tend to make mistakes on and stuff like that. But the other part that I find really interesting is when he speaks in Mandarin and she speaks in Farsi, and I consciously didnt subtitle it, because I want the audience to be in the same position as they are as characters and understand each other through the body language and the music of the language, rather than in specifics.

Right, because each one can only understand the other so much, whereas between the father and the daughter there are subtitles because they can both understand everything because theyre speaking the same language.
Right, but on a more universal level theres certain things that people can also understand quite a bit.

Right.
Where are you from originally? You look

Brooklyn. [laughs]
Brooklyn, but your parents are from my parents were raised in the U.S., but heritage-wise, my dad is Eastern European Jewish and my moms half-Irish and half-European mutt.
Okay. [laughs] Yeah, youre complete Europe. Everything.

Ive been told often that I look Russian, and Im actually not at all. But nobody guesses Im a quarter Irish.
Yeah. Thats a tough one. Its not obvious that youre RusI mean, Irish. [laughter]

Wow, I completely forgot what I was going to ask. Oh! Heres something that caught my attention: when the father is going around the complex and visiting the neighbors, he meets a blonde woman lying by the pool in a bikini, and she looks very young and happy-go-lucky and so-on but it turns out shes a
Forensic scientist, yeah. Well, part of the thing about shooting in Spokane was that there are very few actors in Spokane and they couldnt afford to bring in good actors from L.A. or New York. So I asked a casting person to just bring in real people that are interesting. The Mormons are real Mormons, the two guys. And the woman was somebody that came in and said, Oh, I just finished a forensic science major and I couldnt get a job because theres not enough dead bodies in this town. [laughter] And she just gabbled on just like [her character in the film does] at the pool.

So you just wrote it in?
I just wrote it in. So, yeah, a lot of thats just a reflection of a certain aspect of that town. Its not that eccentric, so to speak, but its very much that town.

And the way youre describing it, taking different residents of Spokanethat calls to mind the way that Gus Van Sant casts his movies largely from Portland.
Right. I love his films. I love the ones in which he works that way, in Portland, Oregon, and it reminds me of Fargo, where they shot it and used a lot of real people. I think its a really interesting way to work.

Do you cast this way often, or was this sort of a new thing?
This was kind of a new thing. And I was forced into it, like I said, because I couldnt afford to bring in good actors, and I went, This is going to be really bad, so could we look for some interesting people? [laughs] So, you know, it happened by accident. I was forced into it, yeah.

Well, it worked!
Yeah, it really did! In the script, you know, Yiyun really wrote in a lot of very interesting, eccentric Middle American people, so that was the inspiration.

So, for example, were you looking specifically for Mormons, or were you looking for random people and the Mormons came up?
Well, some were random. The Mormons were very specific, because there was a very long scene written, and I had actors read them and it just didnt feel right. You know, the Mormons are so committed in a veryI dont know how to say ita very innocent way, almost, and it comes across in how they are, and no actor could duplicate that, really. So I thought that the two guys [that we cast] were great. They read the script, they believed in it, they made some changes for their own purposes and they just did it. They got a standing ovation from the crew afterwards. And they drank a lot of ice water too. They were like, Do we have to drink this again? when, yes, it was another take, so they did have to drink it again. Anyway!

Yeah. I mean, the scene with the two Mormons is a very interesting scene especially because when you have people coming door-to-door you usually say No, thank you. And the father opens the door and he invites them in.
Yeah, hes equally naïve, too.

Yeah, hes naïve, but it also invites the audience to see that from a different perspective. And its not the largest part of the movie, but its an interesting side effect of telling the fathers story.
Absolutely. And it also, in a way, expresses his loneliness and his isolation and the connection that he finds with these two guys who are from another planet, so to speakbut he connected with them by saying, Oh yuck, young communists. Which I find so fascinating.

Well, youve got the way that he approaches new people that he hasnt met before and then you contrast it with the relationship that he has with his daughter. And even though he still isnt a shouter or a loud person, his relationships with new people are still very different.
Right, because somehow he was still able to communicate with them. I mean, hes kind of a talker, and he kind of likes to make things up a little bit. But with the daughter it gets so serious and intenseon both of their parts. I think she brings it out of him, so that it always becomes this very tense sort of silence.

Right. And theres even a part of the movie where theyre discussing happiness as measured by how much somebody talks, and he says, If youre happy, youre going to want to talk to people, and she says, You were silent once. Does that mean you were unhappy too?
No, those are great lines. Those are great lines. Exactly from the book. I love those lines. You know, that same conversation happened at different times at dinners with my parents. You know, I just have nothing to say sometimes, and they would say, Is something upsetting you? Are you unhappy? If youre not unhappy why arent you talking? Its exactly those kinds of conversations.

And even though Yilan is insisting you dont have to talk to be happy, at the same time, the silence between them versus when shes on the phone with one of the friendsis it the Russian who calls her?
Its the Russian.

Right, its the Russian, and shes talking, and even her dad talks more with strangers, so its kind of like being around each other makes them tense enough as tothey feel less happy around each other.
That kind of feeds on itself that way. And I think the history of what he went through and how it affected her mother and her always kind of is the subconscious thing behind it. Yeah.

And its interesting because he himself says, I wasnt a good father. He admits this to the Iranian woman.
I think he feels bad about it. I think hes admitting that hes been irresponsible. And at the same time I find it interesting that as much as she has problems with her father, shes also reliving her fathers life in a way. Shes having an affair with a married man, and replaying that history, you know? Shes so full of contradictions that I like her a lot! [laughs] Her bed is half filled with books, which says a lot about someones life, and I like the fact that she is so controlling in a way and yet has not control over her life. When the Russian lover calls, shes so happy. You know, shes so waiting for those calls. But she has no control over that. Anyway! But do you think high school students would enjoy the film like you do? [laughs]

Well, I think some of them would! I think it depends. I mean, some of them would rather watch Hannah Montana! [laughter] Not knocking Hannah Montana, of course, because I watch it sometimes.
Right, I do too! I do too. I have to sort of understand that world, so [laughter]

Well, you know, Disney Channel has its merits! But there are plenty of high school students that would love a film like this.
Right. Especially in a city like this, where people all have kind of an immigrant background anyway. And the relationship between yourself and your parentsm sure theres certain similarities.

I feel like high school students are often underestimated, though, in terms of taste. And even those who do have lowbrow taste have appreciation for finer things as well.
But I have to say thats more the two coasts. If you go to the heartlands of America uh. My heart sinks. You know, I wont go there. You know? [laughter]

Well, I think in any city youre going to be exposed to more culture than if youre in a little town in the middle of nowhere. Like, Chicagos in the middle of the country, but
Well, Chicagos pretty sophisticated.

Well, thats what Im saying. Its in the middle of the country, but a high schooler there is going to be more culturally educated than a high schooler in the middle of the closer you are to those sorts of things, the more you absorb them, I think. But then those who dont have that exposure drag down others opinions of all of us. So [laughs]
So are you enthusiastic and hopeful about Obama?

I yes!
Good!

I used to be a Hillary supporter, but then I switched, because I disapproved of the way she was running her campaign. Wait, wait, Im the interviewer here! I should be asking the questions!
All right, all right! Thats what II hate to be answering questions always. I have to ask questions sometimes. But okay!

Well, let me turn the tables on you. What do you think about Obama?
I like him. I think hes a breath of fresh air. I think he has to take some clearer stances about issues. Thats where he needs to go now, and I really would look forward to that.

I think, because hes such a strong public speaker, its easy to forget what his stances actually are. But hes getting a lot of younger people into politics, which is great!
No, I hope all the young people will go out and vote. Its really important. And, if anything else, thats the most important thing for America right now. And I hope they all go see A Thousand Years of Good Prayers! [laughter]

You're allowed to say that; it's your interview! Well, though, I think Obama has engaged young people more thoroughly than any candidate before other thanand I wouldnt even know this, but maybe JFK.
Um yeah, but not as much.

And even though MTV is still going strong and all of that, I think teenagers are becoming more aware of the other cultural stuff out there. But maybe thats just me, because Im biased.
I think theres a certain percentage of young people that are like you, and then theres other ones that either dont care or are maybe very religious or whatever.

Okay. So, anything else?
There is another film called Princess of Nebraska

Oh, right, I knew there was something I forgot to ask you!
Its the sister film to this, and were going to figure out a way to release both of them at the same time on different platforms.

Right. It is based on another short story written by the same author?
Same author, short story, from the same book. Its very different. Its about a young girl whos nineteen and shes four months pregnant and shes trying to deal with that. Its about twenty-four hours in her life, dealing with that.

Was that also filmed in Spokane?
No, it was filmed in San Francisco. She actually goes to school in Nebraska; thats why she calls herself the princess of Nebraska. But she doesnt want to get an abortion in the middle of nowhere, she says, and shes always wanted to see San Francisco, so she goes there. So thats the story. And its really like a mirror to A Thousand Years, because in A Thousand Years youve got Yilan, who in a way is running from her own past and her own history and her own culture. And here youve got a younger woman who doesnt really have a past and an identity. She actually identifies with Paris Hilton a lot.

[laughs] Oh god.
She says, I like her; I think she says what she wants; she does what she wants. Thats an exact quote from the movie.

Oh boy. [laughter]
But she learns! Through the movie. Yeah.

If Paris Hilton is your idol, and thats caught onscreen, I should hope that you learn! [laughter] And so thats a companion film to this one.
Yeah. Itll be released on some kind of parallel platform. I dont quite know yet. Maybe on the internet, for free even, or maybe it might be in a movie theater downtown or something.

Are there still movie theaters that do double features, or is that pretty much gone?
Thats pretty much gone. I wanted that. In France theyre going to do that with these two films and I really liked that; here, apparently, economically its not feasible. The last time Quentin Tarantino did it, it was a big disaster.

Grindhouse. Was it really? I never heard how it went. I was rooting for it!
If it had gone well, then that might have made a comeback. But they werent very good films to begin with!

Well, Id been planning on seeing Grindhouse but I see movies so rarely that I ended up not seeing it, and now I should have been there helping it!
Yep! [laughter]

Well cinemas changin.
Yeah, it is.

A lot of the smaller cinemas are just [a slitting motion across the throat]
Well, I was just talking with someone about how independent cinema in America is pretty depressing. You know, some of the really interesting stuff doesnt really get shown, or when it gets shown it just gets shoved aside. I think there needs to be a new venue of some kind, which I think is coming. I think that cameras are so accessible now for young people to do things, and it needs to go on the internet, now, because its distributed in the different way. To get a film out in theatres is too expensive.

Yeah, thats the thing. Theres still independent film but its got to be shot for $5 because its got to be shown in the internet or else nobodys going to see it.
But thats happening right now. And thats one of the things were trying to do for Princess of Nebraska.

Go see the film if you can find it playing near you; it's well worth a trip. Meanwhile, look it up on IMDb.

Muscat, Nov 8 (ANI): Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh was accorded a ceremonial guard of honour at the Royal Terminal of Oman international Airport.
Dr. Singh, who is on a two-day visit to Oman was greeted by the Deputy Prime Minister for the Council of Ministers Sayyid Fahd bin Mahmoud bin Mohammed Al Said.
Tonight the Prime Minister will have a one-to-one meeting with Mohammad Al Said at the Cabinet Minister Building.
After that a delegation level meeting will also take place and in all likelihood some Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) will be signed.
According to the sources, at the delegation level meeting social security for the migrant labour and investment schedule would be discussed.
While on his way to Oman the Prime Minister had said that he would raise issues like the migrant labour problem and investment by Gulf countries in India on a priority basis during his visits to Oman and Qatar, as they merited attention in the wake of the current global meltdown.
In an informal chat with Minister for Overseas Indian Affairs Vyalar Ravi and Minister of State for External Affairs E Ahamed, the media was told that a MoU is to be signed to ensure that the minimum wage is pegged at between 250 to 300 dollars per month.
Besides this, they said that the government would also try to provide one mobile phone to each woman employee so that in times of trouble, they can contact the local embassy.
Another important item on the agenda is to set up a committee comprising of local labour and Indian Embassy officials. They will have periodical meetings. The government is also trying to have the payment of all employees directly transferred to their respective bank accounts.
On the investment front, the India-Oman Investment Fund is to be raised with 100 million dollars as seed money.
Oman also is interested in cooperating with India in the fertiliser sector.
Qatar is reportedly eager to have an investment of about four to five billion dollars, but the only hitch seems to be that it wants India to specifically identify the sector where Qatar should invest. India, however, is insisting on creating a fund first and identifying a specific sector thereafter.
Cooperation in the field of natural gas also seems to be a priority with India, and in this regard, Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Murli Deora will join Prime Minister Singh in Qatar, which has the world #39s third largest reserve of oil and gas.
Dr. Singh is being accompanied by a high level delegation. In Oman, he will hold talks with the Sultan of Oman, Qaboos Bin Al-Sayed, and other leaders on various issues.
He was also be undertaking his first visit to Qatar.
During the visit, expansion of economic partnership, cooperation in the transport sector and joint ventures will figure prominently. Some MoU #39s are also expected to be signed relating to cultural exchanges between the two countries besides standardizing the commerce guidelines.
In Qatar, Dr. Singh will meet the Amir of Qatar, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al Thani, and other representatives on Sunday and the day after. They will discuss strengthening the mutually beneficial cooperative framework to realize the special vision for the bilateral relationship.
On the eve of his departure to Muscat, Dr. Singh had suggested that India could leverage the vast surplus funds in the Gulf region for its development needs in the backdrop of the current global financial crisis.

Few hundred thousands of Malaysians are overstaying and illegally working in USA, UK, Australia, Japan, Korea, New Zealand, Canada, EU countries, Taiwan etc.
The relevent Governments should not just copy the methods employed in asia to deal with those Malaysian  illegals.
You should not employ the unemployed people without proper training to hunt them down. If your voluntary corps wrongly just tear off the pages of the genuine passports with valid visas, you will be in trouble.
If your voluntary corps start to try extortion and torture on all the foreigners, you will lost face.
Or even if they ignorantly rounded up all the foreigners, legal, illegal, with or without documents or even the diplomats (even holding your Foreign offices accreditation cards) few hours in the open space, under the harsh weather and then later hauled up to the police stations and detained for overnight or few days, your countries would be downgraded to the underdeveloped third country.
Worse of all if your volunteers give favour to the illegals who could return favour back to them and treat the legals who refused to givein their demand, your entire police force would be corrupted up to the core.
If your food contractors repeatedly sub contract and feed them with dog food or a small piece of rotten dried fish a two slices of thin stale bread, you will be in trouble.
If you whip the illegals or some of your servants start to request for sexual favours your governments will face problems. You could not simply silence the NGO with defamation lawsuits.

The economy remains the issue as Obama and McCain court every vote.
DEFIANCE, OHIO - Spurred by the latest statistics that confirm the rocky state of the economy, Democrat Barack Obama and Republican John McCain exhorted their supporters on Thursday to intensify their efforts as the marathon presidential race turns into a sprint to the finish line.
With four days before Election Day, the candidates stepped up their schedules, adding stops and rallies as they traveled to more battleground states. Throughout, the focus was on the economy, the issue that has dominated the last weeks of the campaign, and on the importance of voting.
Speaking in Defiance, Ohio, McCain told his backers that they faced an uphill fight against the Democrats, but that they should battle on despite polls showing the GOP trailing nationally and in key states.
McCain derided Obama, who bought a half-hour on most networks Wednesday night. The political infomercial was watched by 21.7 percent of households in the top 56 local markets, Nielsen Media Research reported Thursday.
He gave his first address to the nation before the election, McCain chided.
The Arizona Republican then put his own spin on Obamas comments in an interview with ABC News.
Last night Senator Obama said that if he lost he would return to the Senate and he would try again in four years with a second act, McCain said. That sounds like a great idea to me. Lets make it happen.
The McCain campaigns decision to spend two of the campaigns five remaining days in Ohio underscored the importance of the states 20 electoral votes, which went Republican in 2004.
I need your energy, I need your enthusiasm. I know history I know the last time anyone was elected president of the United States without carrying the state of Ohio was John F. Kennedy, said McCain, who planned stops Thursday in Sandusky, Elyria and Mentor before heading to Youngstown for the night.
Obama spent his second day in Florida, before leaving for a whirlwind of visits to states that President Bush won in 2004. Among them are Virginia, Missouri, Nevada, Colorado, Indiana and Ohio.
Polls suggest Obama holds a slight lead over McCain in Florida, with its 27 electoral votes, and other key battleground states.
Democrats appear to have dominated early voting across the nation, but Obama has repeatedly cautioned supporters against overconfidence.
t believe this elections over, he told the flag-waving crowd of more than 13,000 in Sarasota on Thursday morning. t believe it for a minute.
The Commerce Department reported Thursday that the gross domestic product shrank by 0.3 percent in the third quarter as fearful consumers cut back on spending. The new numbers, the steepest decline since 2001, provided fresh fodder for both campaigns.
If you want to know where John McCain will drive this economy, just look in the rearview mirror, Obama said. Because when it comes to our economic policies, John McCain has been right next to George Bush. Hes been sitting there in the passenger seat ready to take over, every step of the way.All of this didnt happen by accident, Obama said. Our falling GDP is a direct result of a failed economic theory of eight years of trickle-down, Wall-Street-first, Main-Street-last policies that have driven our economy into a ditch.
While casting McCain as a champion of tax cuts for the rich and lax regulation of Wall Street, Obama renewed pledges to cut taxes for the middle class and crack down on corporate greed.
In response, McCains campaign released a statement saying that Obama would drive this sputtering economy off a cliff. If voters looked into Barack Obamas rearview, theyd see that he supported every one of Washingtons wasteful spending bills and has voted for higher taxes 94 times in just three years, McCain spokesman Tucker Bounds said. His economic proposals are driven by job-killing tax increases and out-of-control spending.
McCain has ruled out any tax increase while Obama has called for more taxes for families earning more than $250,000 a year. The Democrat has also called for a tax cut for those earning less.
Obama campaigned Thursday in Columbia, Mo., with visits to Springfield in the heart of that states heavily Republican and rural southern region.
Delaware Sen. Joe Biden, the Democrats vice presidential candidate, also campaigned Thursday in Missouri.
Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin campaigned in Cape Girardeau, Mo.
We believe in the forward movement of freedom and not in the constant expansion of government, Palin, the governor of Alaska, told the crowd of about 7,800 people in the heavily Republican area in southeast Missouri.
Missouri has 11 electoral votes and is tightly divided between Obama and McCain. Cape Girardeau, about 100 miles south of St. Louis, is Rush Limbaughs hometown.
The Republican stronghold is dotted with Vote Pro-Life yard signs. Voters in this county supported President Bush by more than a 2 to 1 margin in 2004.
And we believe that the virtues of freedom are still worth fighting for, Palin said. We believe the best of America is not all gathered in Washington, D.C. We believe it is here in the kindness and goodness and courage of everyday, hardworking Americans.
We believe America is not the problem; we believe America is the solution, she said.

HR leaders must know how to thread their way through the ins and outs of outsourcing before their organizations can build an effective HR solution.
Although HR professionals have been using outsourcing in one way or another for many years, the trend continues to gather steam. A growing number of organizations are outsourcing at least some of their HR functions.
Some point to increasing cost pressures or the need to relieve staff of their administrative burden. Others say they are looking to improve their focus, access first-rate capabilities, share risks and rewards, keep up with rapidly evolving technology, deal with increasing regulatory and compliance requirements and/or to better manage continuous change.
This article looks at the current state of outsourcing what HR is outsourcing now and why.
Why Organizations Outsource: The Fact and the Fiction
Most HR departments have many common expectations and perceptions about outsourcing not all of which are true.
When viewed objectively, Sibson, a strategic HR consulting division of The Segal Co., has observed that outsourcing actually does:
Increase efficiency. It allows organizations to take advantage of what others have learned. They already have found ways to improve efficiency and have solved many of the problems that other companies are now experiencing.
Free internal resources and allow HR practitioners to be more strategic. Instead of entering data, crunching numbers and pushing paper, HR can focus on core/non-administrative functions. Offloading the administrative work maximizes the organizations resources.
Offer access to expertise. Organizations that outsource gain access to know-how they probably do not possess. They tap into a broad network of experienced people and best practices.
There are, however, some common misconceptions about outsourcing, including the belief that it can and will in every situation:
Cut costs. Although outsourcing will provide cost savings for some organizations (mostly those that are very large and extremely inefficient), in most cases, it is dollar-for-dollar cost neutral.
Take an organization with hundreds of people in HR: If it can save just 5 percent of the $100 million dollars it spends on HR, it will save $5 million. But a company with only 10 people in HR is not going to pay for the service by shifting the work off one or two employees. What will happen is that the department will gain an increase in benefits or services more bang for the buck.
Keep up with the latest technology. Many HR departments are stuck with old technology and find it difficult and expensive to upgrade. Outsourcers, however, are expected to keep up with technology and provide the service at a reasonable cost.
This is true for some vendors, but not all. It is up to the organization to check and manage the relationship correctly.
Provide improved and additional services. As with technology, this is true to some extent. While the organization can get improved services, it will have to negotiate for them and they will come at a cost.
Share risk. Although it is somewhat true that risk is shared between the HR department and the outsourcer, this is typically mitigated by the contract, and that is what determines where risk stops and starts, particularly around compliance efforts. In almost all cases, the risk stays with the organization.
Why Some Organizations Choose Not to Outsource
In our experience, some HR departments prefer not to outsource because they:
Cannot justify the outsourcing fees. Outsourcing may cost more, but the organization will get more. The question is, what does the organization need, and can it afford more?
Have a competitive or strategic advantage in a particular function. If an organization does something particularly well, it has little to gain and much to lose by outsourcing it.
Fear losing control. While it is true that some control must be surrendered in any outsourcing relationship, processes can be established to ensure the organization has all the control it needs. Nevertheless, some HR departments prefer to play their cards close to the vest.
Already have the investment, infrastructure and expertise in place to perform these duties. The organization may have already made a large capital expenditure in people, process and/or technology and has costs to recover.
Believe their internal staff and systems are not ready. This is often a cultural issue. Some HR departments are not prepared for this kind of change.
Do not have the resources and skills they need to manage external vendors. They have HR practitioners, but outsourcing calls for relationship managers a different skill set.
Think outsourcing would be culturally unacceptable. In many cases, organizations have never outsourced because it conflicts with their practiced business policies.
Cannot find outsourcers. Although in some cases this is just an excuse, some organizations are looking for something that does not exist. For instance, they may want to outsource the distribution of electronic files for data exchange and nothing else, which is not possible.
Have unusually high security requirements. This is largely a matter of perception. Most outsourcers have very high standards in place and pass multiple audits. Yet HR information is very sensitive and some organizations still believe they have stronger firewalls than anybody else. In short, they do not want anyone else managing their data.
What Are Organizations Outsourcing?
HR departments can outsource their technology, their people and/or their processes. The most common approach for mid-sized organizations is to outsource their technology and a part of their processes. As shows, the most popular process to outsource is 401(k) plan management, followed by pensions and benefits.
What the Data Shows
How do organizations like insourcing vs. outsourcing? Some of the findings are surprising. As demonstrates, when it comes to HR solutions (technology, people and process), HR departments that outsource say it has allowed them to avoid new information technology/capital expenditures and reduce software implementation times.
Those that use in-house solutions say it has improved employee productivity and made it easy to integrate new services.
The employee productivity example is particularly interesting because it is contrary to what most HR professionals think: that outsourcing will improve productivity. In this instance, the portion of organizations with in-house solutions that say productivity has improved is actually 20 percentage points higher than those that have outsourced.
Conclusion
HR has evolved a great deal in recent years, moving away from administrative work to become a respected function and a partner in the organizations business. Now, it is becoming a business leader that is ROI-focused and technology savvy.
Outsourcing is one of the levers HR has used to move along this path. Although the reasons to insource or outsource HR processes, technology or people continue to vary from organization to organization, outsourcing remains a popular approach for delivering HR services.

Biometric Technologies. The company, based in Florida and Colorado, uses biometric technology to help both insurers and providers prove that care is provided appropriately. It uses biometric data, specifically a fingerprint scan, to verify that a patient actually received a service for which a provider is billing. To hear company exec Scott Kimmel tell it, its Bioclaim system can all but eliminate phantom billing (billing for a patient that was never seen, or for services that weren't rendered), and can also time patients to help avoid upcoding by providers.

Aware of such options, many state governments and coalitions are looking or have already looked into biometric and smart card options to cut fraud in health and public benefit programs. These governmentsinclude Puerto Rico, Texas and the New England PARTNERS Project, a joint initiative of the states of Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont.

Still, to date it appears that CMS isn't terribly interested in such a solution, as logical as it appears. No doubt, the agency is a bit intimidated by the cost of implementing biometric technology (or requiring providers to implement it), and its leaders may not feel they understand it well enough.

Not only that, implementing fingerprint scans or other biometric options at the point of care would generate high integration costs, without a doubt. You can't go from paper to managing and tracking fingerprint scans without some major development work in between.

That being said, I'm amazed biometrics isn't being taken more seriously by federal planners, particularly given how much they worry about e-prescribing security violations, EMR privacy protections, the need for secure remote monitoring of patients and what have you. There's clearly something I'm missing here.

Folks, what do you think?Does biometrics make sense as the next wave of Medicare fraud fighting technology? If not, why? I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Indeed, the young actress' rapidly maturing body and youthful sex appeal combined with a burgeoning reputation for enjoying the Hollywood night life, despite being underage suddenly made her regular fodder for celebrity gossip. These same publications dutifully covered her denials about having received breast implants, her brief 2004 relationship with TV actor Wilmer Valderrama, her alleged hard-partying ways, an aggressive paparazzi pursuit that resulted in a fender bender, and after her figure had turned voluptuous and her titian hair became her trademark her eyebrow-raising rapid weight loss (which the actress attributed to a healthier lifestyle) and new look as a bottled blonde. The actress also had to deal with press reports regarding her estranged father Michael Lohan, whose alleged substance abuse and short temper (he reportedly threatened the lives of his ex-wife and children) resulted in several brushes with the law, including a legal restraining order preventing him from contact with his family and jail time for a litany of legal offenses, including assaulting his brother-in-law at his son's first communion party, violating terms of his restraining order and a 2005 drunk driving crash in which his vehicle struck a utility pole in Long Island and caught fire. Further estranging his famous daughter, he also sought to claim a percentage of his offspring's earnings.
Despite all the lurid press, Lohan's popularity continued unabated and Disney cast her in further family fare, this time in the remake of the studio's famous "Love Bug" franchise, "Herbie: Fully Loaded" (2005) as a young girl who inherits the legendary Volkswagen Beetle and takes it to the NASCAR race circuit. The Mouse House did have some concerns about the voluptuous Lohan's image in regards to how their young audience might react, spending considerable sums to digitally decrease her growing bust size after it was deemed distracting.
In 2005, a mounting pile of scandalous headlines began plaguing the actress. She was rushed to the hospital during filming of reportedly due to This would not be the last time Lohan would be hospitalized for a variety of ailments. She was in her second auto accident of the year, again blaming pursuing paparazzi. Her private life made headlines for the umpteenth time that year when she confessed to Vanity Fair that she had indeed experienced an eating disorder earlier that year specifically, bulimia that accounted for her significant weight loss and that she was shocked back to healthier ways after being confronted by "Saturday Night Live" (NBC, 1975- ) producer Lorne Michaels and head writer Tina Fey while hosting the show that year. She also admitted to experimenting with drugs. The cover story was released just as Lohan was hospitalized for a reported asthma attack in Miami after ringing in 2006. Within a week, Lohan denied having made the statements to the magazine, saying her words were "misconstrued." The magazine stood by the story.
After moving on from Disney and consequently her childhood image Lohan began taking on more womanly parts in impressive ensembles and holding her own opposite some of Hollywood's most admired talents. She joined the impressive cast of Emilio Estevez's independent film "Bobby" (2006) which included Anthony Hopkins and Sharon Stone about the assassination of Robert F. Kennedy, and costarred opposite Oscar-winner Meryl Streep in Robert Altman's last film, "A Prairie Home Companion" both released in 2006. She costarred with her reported off-screen love interest, Jared Leto, in "Chapter 27" (2007), an indie film about a woman who befriends Mark David Chapman during the weekend that he kills John Lennon in New York City. Although she continued to land roles in impressive films opposite heavyweight actors like Jane Fonda in "Georgia Rule" (2007) the film she was making when its producers made public a scolding letter to curb her on set tardiness from all the partying Lohan's increasingly erratic behavior and seemingly non-stop personal drama began shifting the focus from her undeniable onscreen talent to being the punchline of jokes.

Brad Pitt Named ‘Most Potent Actor’

Sienna Millers biggest fan website is set to be shut down.
The webmaster for Sienna Online, www.sienna-miller.org, posted a message to devotees of the actress in which she blasted the Edge of Love star for cavorting with married father-of-four Balthazar Getty and letting fame go to her head.
The post reads: It must be obvious that my heart has not been in this site for the past couple of years. This is due to several reasons, the main ones being a lack of time and how Sienna has changed.Regarding the change in Sienna, while some may argue she has simply grown up and reacted to events in a normal way, I cannot get past the fact that to me she has completely changed from the Sienna I became a fan of back in 2004.
